1What is the proper sequential order of the cockpit drill adjustments before starting the car engine?
A.Seatbelt first, then seat position, then mirrors
B.Mirrors first, seatbelt, then adjust the seat while driving
C.Seat position, mirrors, and seatbelt
D.Turn the ignition key first, then adjust the driver seat
Explanation: Adjust the seat first (reach to the pedals, height and backrest), then the interior and door mirrors, then fasten the seat belt. Décret gouvernemental n° 2021-510 (Annexe 1, point 6.1) lists adjusting the seat, mirrors, seat belt and head restraint, and checking that the doors are closed, among the preparation steps assessed in the Category B practical test.
2What general safety status is indicated by a RED warning light illuminating on the vehicle dashboard while driving?
A.A system is switched on and working normally
B.An advisory reminder to check scheduled maintenance within 3 months
C.The vehicle has entered an eco-driving mode
D.A serious fault: stop safely as soon as possible
Explanation: Dashboard warning colours follow a common convention: red means a serious fault or danger (for example low oil pressure, a brake-system fault or overheating) that calls for stopping safely as soon as possible and switching off the engine. The official exam programme includes detecting the most common vehicle defects (Décret gouvernemental n° 2021-510, Annexe 1, point 2.1.7).
3What does an AMBER or ORANGE warning light on the vehicle instrument cluster signify?
A.Immediate danger requiring an emergency stop on the roadway
B.A fault to have checked soon; careful driving can continue
C.The engine has reached normal operating temperature
D.The headlights are set to high beam
Explanation: Amber/orange lights warn the driver of an anomaly (such as low fuel, tire pressure monitoring alert, or engine management check) that requires attention or inspection, but does not dictate an immediate roadside emergency halt.
4Which foot operates the clutch pedal in a standard manual transmission passenger car?
A.The right foot exclusively
B.Both feet simultaneously
C.Either foot depending on driver preference
D.The left foot exclusively
Explanation: In a manual transmission car, the clutch pedal (leftmost pedal) is operated exclusively by the left foot. The right foot operates both the accelerator pedal (right) and brake pedal (center).
5What is the recommended hand position on the steering wheel when driving in a straight line or gentle curves?
A.One hand at the 12 o'clock position and one arm resting on the door
B.At about 9 and 3 o'clock
C.Both hands gripping the bottom of the wheel at '6 o'clock'
D.Both hands placed inside the steering wheel spokes
Explanation: Holding the steering wheel at '9 and 3' (or '10 and 2') provides maximum vehicle control, optimal leverage for sudden avoidance maneuvers, and keeps arms clear of the deploying driver airbag in the steering hub.
6What does a dashboard warning symbol depicting an oil can with a drop of liquid indicate?
A.Windscreen washer fluid is low
B.The engine oil is due for its next scheduled change
C.The fuel filter needs draining
D.Low engine oil pressure: stop and switch off
Explanation: The red oil can symbol indicates insufficient engine oil pressure. If this illuminates while driving, the engine must be shut down immediately to prevent irreversible mechanical seizure of crankshaft and rod bearings.
7How should the driver's head restraint (appuie-tête) be adjusted for optimal whiplash protection?
A.Lowered so it supports the base of the neck
B.Removed completely to improve rearward visibility
C.Reclined back so it does not touch the head at all
D.Its top level with the top of your head, close behind it
Explanation: The head restraint prevents hyperextension of the cervical vertebrae (whiplash) during a rear-end impact. Its upper edge must be level with the top of the head (or at least eye level) and positioned within 2 to 4 cm of the skull.
8What is the proper method for adjusting the driver's seat distance from the pedals?
A.Brake pressed fully with the leg locked straight
B.Knees touching the lower dashboard for support
C.Clutch fully down, knee still slightly bent
D.Seat as far back as the rails allow
Explanation: With the clutch pedal pressed fully to the floor, the left knee should still be slightly bent. A locked-straight leg cannot brake hard as effectively and is more exposed to injury in a frontal crash, while a seat that is too close cramps the controls.
9What does a circular warning light showing an exclamation mark inside parentheses '( ! )' in red or amber indicate?
A.Low tire pressure monitoring alert only
B.The engine is due for an oil service
C.The ABS has been switched off by the driver
D.Handbrake on, or a brake fluid/circuit fault
Explanation: The symbol '( ! )' or '( P )' indicates either that the handbrake is engaged or that brake fluid has dropped below the minimum safety threshold, signaling a dangerous hydraulic leak or heavily worn pads.
10What does a dashboard warning symbol depicting an engine block (check engine / témoin d'autodiagnostic moteur) signify?
A.The engine oil needs topping up before the next trip
B.The air filter needs cleaning
C.The radiator fan is running at high speed
D.A fault in the engine management or emissions system
Explanation: The amber check engine light alerts the driver that the on-board diagnostic system (OBD) has detected a malfunction in fuel injection, ignition, sensors (oxygen/MAF), or catalytic emissions control.

About the Tunisia Category B Exam

The Tunisian Category B licence covers cars with up to 8 passenger seats and a PTAC of up to 3,500 kg, and also entitles the holder to AA and H vehicles. Candidates aged 18 or over pass a 30-question ATTT theory test in Arabic or French, a road test in a dual-control car, and four manoeuvres on a separate appointment. This bank is an independent English-language MCQ study adaptation covering the rules, checks and driving decisions behind those tests, not an official translation or a substitute for driving lessons.

Exam sponsor: Agence Technique des Transports Terrestres (ATTT) — Ministère du Transport. The requirements and fees below concern the certification or admission exam, separate from our free practice resources.

Tunisia Category B: Suggested Study Strategy

1Learn the four manoeuvres in their official order; the manoeuvres test comes after you pass the road test.
2Know the pre-drive checks: seat, mirrors, belt and head restraint, then tyres, brakes, steering, fluids, lights, reflectors, indicators and horn.
3Remember the Category B limits: up to 8 passenger seats and 3,500 kg PTAC, with a trailer of up to 750 kg (or heavier within the 3,500 kg and unladen-weight conditions).
4Revise the road-test criteria the ATTT lists: vehicle and speed control, adapting speed, applying the rules, judging hazards and respecting vulnerable users.
