The PNLE/NLE is a two-day PRC Board of Nursing written exam with five 100-item Nursing Practice tests. The official passing rule under RA 9173 is a 75% general average with no subject below 60%. The enhanced TOS adopted in 2025 applies from the November 2025 NLE onward and defines the current content coverage.

About the PNLE Exam
The Nurses Licensure Examination is the PRC Board of Nursing written licensure exam for entry to registered nursing practice in the Philippines. The current PRC program and enhanced TOS organize the exam into five 100-item Nursing Practice subjects covering community health nursing, maternal-child nursing, medical-surgical nursing, psychiatric nursing, high-acuity and emergency care, and embedded outcomes such as nursing process, evidence-based practice, legal and ethical practice, communication, documentation, collaboration, leadership, technology use, and nursing core values.

Five Nursing Practice subjects, each a 100-item written test: NP I Community Health Nursing; NP II maternal, adolescent, child, and human growth and development; NP III surgery, oxygenation, fluids/electrolytes, infection, immunologic response, and cellular aberrations; NP IV nutrition, GI, metabolism/endocrine, perception, and coordination; NP V psychiatric, life-threatening, multi-organ, high-acuity, and emergency care.

Nursing Practice I
Care of individuals, families, population groups, and communities, including community health nursing, communicable and noncommunicable disease control, Philippine health-care delivery, UHC, PHC, epidemiology, disaster nursing, school and occupational health, community organizing, referral, health education, and research use
Nursing Practice II
Care of mothers, adolescents, neonates, infants, children, and adolescents, including normal and high-risk pregnancy, labor and delivery, postpartum care, family planning, reproductive health, growth and development, immunization, and pediatric acute and chronic conditions
Nursing Practice III

How many questions are on the PNLE?
The current structure is five Nursing Practice subjects. The PRC enhanced TOS Annex A specifies 100 items per subject, for 500 total items.
How long is the exam?
The PRC program schedules each Nursing Practice subject for 2 hours. Across five subjects, that is 10 hours of testing over two days, not counting instructions and breaks.
What score is required to pass?
RA 9173 requires a general average of at least 75% with a rating of not below 60% in any subject. If the general average is 75% or higher but a subject is below 60%, the examinee retakes only the subject or subjects below 60% and must earn at least 75% in the repeated subject or subjects.
How much is the examination fee?
The PRC Board of Nursing fee source consulted lists PHP 900 for the complete examination and PHP 450 for conditioned or removal. Applicants should verify the current amount in LERIS and current PRC notices before payment.
