About the A2 Flyers Exam
Cambridge English A2 Flyers, also known as Young Learners English (YLE) Flyers, is the third and highest of the three Cambridge English Qualifications for young learners, aimed at children aged about 9 to 12. It sits at CEFR level A2 and shows that a child can understand and use everyday written and spoken English in familiar situations. The test has three papers: Listening (5 parts, 25 questions, about 25 minutes), Reading and Writing (7 parts, 44 questions, 40 minutes) and a short face-to-face Speaking test (4 parts, 7 to 9 minutes). Tasks use colourful pictures, conversations, short stories and factual texts, and children must spell their written answers correctly. Results are reported using shields, with a maximum of five shields per paper and no pass or fail, so every child receives a certificate. Children usually take A2 Flyers after about 250 hours of English lessons.
