About the ENADE Design Gráfico Exam
The Exame Nacional de Desempenho dos Estudantes (ENADE) for the Curso Superior de Tecnologia em Design Gráfico is a compulsory curricular component created by Federal Law nº 10.861/2004 (SINAES) and run by INEP under the Ministry of Education. ENADE areas rotate on the triennial cycle defined by Portaria Normativa MEC nº 840/2018, and Design Gráfico belongs to Year I of that cycle: it was assessed in the 2025 edition under Portaria MEC nº 392/2025, with the bacharelado and tecnólogo paper applied on 23 November 2025. It is not one of the 40 areas assessed in the 2026 edition, which Portaria MEC nº 276/2026 restricted to Year II areas, so the next expected sitting for Design Gráfico is the 2028 edition, subject to the MEC portaria published for that year. The specific component is governed by Portaria INEP nº 350/2025, which takes the Catálogo Nacional dos Cursos Superiores de Tecnologia and associated professional legislation as its subsidies and lists 16 objetos de conhecimento: história do design; estudo das relações entre design, sociedade e cultura; estudos da percepção visual (cor, imagem, estética e semiótica); linguagem, expressão e representação visual; metodologias do design; estudos em ergonomia informacional; materiais e produção gráfica; tipografia; fundamentos da computação gráfica; design editorial; desenvolvimento de interfaces em mídias digitais; sistemas de identidade visual; design de embalagem; empreendedorismo, gestão e inovação; ética e legislação aplicadas ao design; and design e sustentabilidade. INEP publishes no percentage weighting per object. The exam is sat in Portuguese; INEP does not offer an English-language sitting.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is Design Gráfico part of the ENADE 2026 edition?
No. ENADE areas rotate on a triennial cycle, and Tecnologia em Design Gráfico belongs to Year I. It was assessed in the 2025 edition under Portaria MEC nº 392/2025, with the paper applied on 23 November 2025. Portaria MEC nº 276/2026 defined the 40 areas of the 2026 edition — 21 licenciaturas, Medicina, 14 bacharelados, and the four tecnólogo areas of Análise e Desenvolvimento de Sistemas, Gestão da Tecnologia da Informação, Gestão Ambiental, and Redes de Computadores — and Design Gráfico is not among them. The next sitting is expected in the 2028 edition, subject to the MEC portaria published for that year.
What is ENADE Design Gráfico and why is it mandatory?
ENADE is Brazil's national student performance examination, run by INEP under Federal Law nº 10.861/2004 (SINAES). It is a compulsory curricular component: an eligible concluding student of the Curso Superior de Tecnologia em Design Gráfico who does not sit the exam in the edition covering their area, and is not formally excused, remains irregular before the SINAES, which blocks the graduation ceremony and the issue of the tecnólogo diploma.
How is the paper structured, and what does the specific component cover?
In the 2025 edition the paper had 46 items in a single 4-hour session: 15 Formação Geral multiple-choice questions under Portaria INEP nº 340/2025, plus 30 multiple-choice questions and 1 discursive question in the specific component under Portaria INEP nº 350/2025. That portaria lists 16 objetos de conhecimento covering design history, design and society, visual perception and semiotics, visual language and representation, design methodologies, informational ergonomics, materials and graphic production, typography, computer graphics fundamentals, editorial design, digital interface development, visual identity systems, packaging design, entrepreneurship and innovation, ethics and legislation, and sustainability. INEP publishes no percentage weighting per object.
How does ENADE Design Gráfico differ from ENADE Design (bacharelado)?
They are separate areas with separate portarias. The bacharelado em Design component covers a broader generalist scope that includes product and industrial design, while the Tecnologia em Design Gráfico component is anchored in the Catálogo Nacional dos Cursos Superiores de Tecnologia and concentrates on visual communication: typography and editorial design, graphic production and prepress, visual identity systems, packaging, and digital interfaces.
Is there a pass mark, and how is the result used?
There is no individual pass mark. Results are aggregated into the course-level Conceito Enade on a 1 to 5 scale, which feeds the Conceito Preliminar de Curso (CPC) and the Índice Geral de Cursos (IGC). Portaria INEP nº 359/2025, Art. 181 provides that the calculation rules, including how the Formação Geral and Componente Específico scores are combined, are published in per-edition technical notes rather than fixed in the statute.
Why is this practice bank written in English when the real exam is in Portuguese?
The official ENADE is sat in Portuguese only; INEP does not offer an English-language sitting. This bank is an English-language multiple-choice study adaptation of the official objetos de conhecimento, aimed at students and educators who study design in English, and it deliberately keeps Brazilian statutes, regulators, and design terminology in their exact Portuguese form. It is not an official translation, it does not reproduce the real paper, and it does not simulate the discursive projectual question, which you should practise separately in Portuguese using INEP's published past papers and answer patterns.
