What is the NOCE exam format?
The NOCE Basic exam is a secure computer-based examination with 125 multiple-choice questions and a two-hour limit. Its scored blueprint contains 100 questions, with additional pilot questions not counted toward the result.
What score is required to pass the NOCE?
ABO-NCLE uses a criterion-referenced standard established with the Modified Angoff method. The current handbook does not publish a fixed numeric cut score.
Who is eligible to take the NOCE?
ABO-NCLE generally requires a high school diploma, GED, or equivalent, with limited exceptions for high school students in dual programs. A state licensing board's requirements supersede ABO-NCLE rules when they differ.
How soon can I retake the NOCE?
A candidate may retake the NOCE after waiting 14 days. After a third unsuccessful attempt, the candidate must wait 90 days before becoming eligible to test again.
What does the NOCE Basic blueprint cover?
The 100-question scored outline assigns 25 questions to ophthalmic optics, 10 to ocular anatomy and refraction, 20 to products, 15 to instrumentation, 20 to dispensing procedures, and 10 to laws, regulations, and standards.
