Is the NOCE vocabulary game free?
Yes. The game is free to play with no sign-up. Signing in adds AI explanations for any term.
How does the NOCE vocabulary game work?
Each round shows a clue for one of 20 NOCE terms. Guess the term in six tries: green means the right letter in the right spot, yellow means the letter is in the term but in another spot, and gray means it is not in the term. After the round, read the explanation and play the next term.
Where do the NOCE terms come from?
OpenExamPrep researched each term from the ABO (American Board of Opticianry) / Prometric content outline and primary sources, listed under Sources on this page. The game is independent study material, not an official exam resource.
How many questions are on the NOCE exam?
The ABO-NCLE Basic Exam Handbook (July 2026) lists a 100-question test specification across six content domains and a 125-item administration; its scoring section says each exam contains at least 85-100 scored items plus pilot items that do not count toward the score. Candidates have 2 hours to complete the exam.
What score do I need to pass the NOCE?
ABO-NCLE uses a criterion-referenced passing standard set with the Modified Angoff Method and does not publish it as a raw percentage. Results are reported as soon as the computer-based exam ends, an exam report follows by email within a couple of hours, and candidates who do not pass receive diagnostic information for each content area.
