1.1 About the PRINCE2 Agile Foundation (Version 2) Exam

Quick summary: PRINCE2 Agile Foundation (Version 2) is a 40-question, 60-minute, closed-book multiple-choice exam administered by PeopleCert. You need 24 marks (60%) to pass. Version 2 was released in May 2025 and is aligned to PRINCE2 Project Management Version 7. Version 1 is being retired: vouchers stopped on 30 June 2026 and the final sitting date is 31 December 2026.

Which version will you sit?

This is the first thing to get right, because Version 1 and Version 2 are meaningfully different papers and most free material on the internet still describes Version 1.

PeopleCert's PRINCE2 Agile certification hub carries a retirement notice for Version 1:

• Last day to purchase a Version 1 voucher: 30 June 2026
• Last day to take a Version 1 exam (including Take2 resits): 31 December 2026

That date has already passed for purchasing. If you are booking a PRINCE2 Agile Foundation exam now, you are booking Version 2. The only people still sitting Version 1 are candidates who bought a voucher before the cut-off and have not yet used it. This guide teaches Version 2; section 11.3 sets out what changed, so Version 1 voucher-holders can see which parts of this guide do not apply to their paper.

Exam mechanics

The Official PRINCE2 Agile Book should be used to study but is explicitly not permitted in the exam. This is a straight closed-book recall paper — unlike the Practitioner exam, which is open book to the official guidance and runs for 150 minutes.

Sixty minutes for forty questions gives you 90 seconds per question. That is generous for a recall paper, so there is time for a second pass over flagged items.

Syllabus weightings

The exam is built from four learning outcomes with published weightings. Knowing where the marks sit tells you where to spend revision time.

Two observations candidates routinely miss:

1. Learning outcome 2 is the single biggest block. Sixteen marks sit in the seven practices, their artifacts and techniques, the PRINCE2 Agile principles, and the eleven PRINCE2 Agile roles.
2. Learning outcome 4 is only about two marks, but it is cheap to secure: it covers agile product management, transitioning to operations, continuous agile development and operations, and how AI can support PRINCE2 Agile. Two marks for four ideas is the best return on the paper.

The four question styles

All questions are objective test questions (OTQs) presenting four options, of which you select one.

• Standard. A question stem plus four options. The overwhelming majority of the paper.
• Missing word. A sentence with a gap, and four candidate words. For example: "A purpose of the [ ? ] practice is to control any deviations causing an exception." These reward precise knowledge of purpose statements.
• List. Four numbered statements, and four options that each pair two of them. You must pick the pair in which both statements are correct. List questions are never negatively worded.
• Negative. A standard question whose stem is negatively worded ("Which should NOT …"). PeopleCert uses these only as an exception, where knowing that something should not be done is itself part of the learning outcome.

Distractors — the wrong options — are written to be plausible to a candidate with incomplete knowledge. Expect wrong options that are true statements about PRINCE2 Agile but do not answer the question asked, or that belong to a neighbouring practice.

Prerequisites, cost, and validity

• Prerequisites: none. PRINCE2 Agile Foundation (Version 2) is open to anyone. No prior PRINCE2 or agile knowledge is assumed; the syllabus teaches both from first principles.
• Cost. PeopleCert lists the exam bundle (official eBook, exam voucher and learning resource kit) at US$701, with eLearning bundles at US$1,029 and US$1,338. Treat any lower headline figure with care: the "from £295.00" price shown on PeopleCert's PRINCE2 Agile hub sits under a 25%-off promotional banner, so it is a discounted rather than a standard price, and regional pricing varies. Accredited training organizations price independently, so shop around.
• Validity: three years. This is a change from Version 1. Renewal requires 20 CPD points, maintained through PeopleCert membership, or you can recertify by completing another qualification in the same product suite.
• Onward path. PRINCE2 Agile Practitioner (Version 2) — 50 questions, 150 minutes, open book, 60% to pass — requires either PRINCE2 Agile Foundation (Version 2) or any PRINCE2 Agile (Version 1) certification.

A note on pass rates

PeopleCert does not publish a pass rate for this exam. Any figure you see quoted on a training provider's site is that provider's own cohort statistic or an outright guess. Do not calibrate your preparation against one. Calibrate instead against the syllabus: if you can state the purpose of each of the seven practices, each of the seven processes, and the responsibilities of the eleven roles, you are in good shape.
