Exam Content Breakdown
Based on the official GED Testing Service (a joint venture of ACE and Pearson) content outline
46 questions in 115 minutes. Two domains: Quantitative Problem Solving (45%) covering arithmetic, ratios, percents, statistics, and geometry; and Algebraic Problem Solving (55%) covering expressions, equations, inequalities, linear and quadratic functions. A calculator (TI-30XS Multiview) is allowed for most of the test.
150 minutes total (including 10-min break). Approximately 46 questions plus 1 Extended Response (essay, 45 minutes). Covers reading comprehension of informational and literary texts, grammar and language conventions, and argument-based writing. About 75% informational text, 25% literary text.
34–40 questions in 90 minutes. Three content areas: Life Science (40%) covering cells, heredity, ecosystems, and evolution; Physical Science (40%) covering matter, energy, forces, and motion; Earth and Space Science (20%) covering geology, weather, the solar system, and climate. Scientific practices (experimental design, data interpretation) are tested across all areas.
35 questions in 70 minutes. Four content areas: Civics and Government (50%), U.S. History (20%), Economics (15%), and Geography and the World (15%). Primary source documents, graphs, maps, and political cartoons are commonly used as stimulus materials.
