Unit I of the POST Basic Academic Training Program (16 of 376 academic hours): the criminal process, the Colorado judicial process, and 8 hours of law enforcement ethics and anti-bias policing.

Unit II (68 hours): constitutional law, the Colorado Criminal Code, crimes involving children, controlled substances and marijuana, rules of evidence, legal liability, and court testimony.

Unit III (22 hours): the Colorado Victim Rights Act, domestic violence dynamics, bias-motivated hate crimes, interaction with special populations, mental health crisis contacts, and human trafficking.

Unit IV (4 hours): community policing philosophy and problem-solving or crime-prevention methods such as SARA and CPTED.

Unit V (94 hours), the largest block: observation and perception, officer survival, pedestrian and vehicle contacts, building searches, in-progress calls, civil disputes, crowd control, hazardous materials, area searches, hostage and barricade response, and rapid emergency deployment.

Unit VI (50 hours): the Colorado traffic code, manual traffic direction, traffic crash documentation, and 24 hours of standardized field sobriety testing and D.U.I. enforcement.

Unit VII (46 hours): preliminary investigations, crime scene investigation and evidence collection, sexual assault response, major case considerations, and an investigative capstone exercise.

Unit VIII (34 hours): 24 hours of police report writing plus verbal communication techniques and law enforcement leadership.

Unit IX (30 hours): introduction to officer wellness, a 24-hour wellness lab, and stress management.

Unit X (12 hours): tactical casualty care lecture covering the duty to render aid under C.R.S. 18-1-707(2)(c), phases of care and M.A.R.C.H., plus skills stations and scenario-based training.
