What is the CJBAT?
The CJBAT is the Criminal Justice Basic Abilities Test, also called the Florida Basic Abilities Test or BAT. FDLE says BAT and CJBAT refer to the same test, used for many Florida law enforcement and corrections basic recruit training paths. Separate law-enforcement and corrections versions exist.
How many questions are on the CJBAT and how is it structured?
The CJBAT has 97 questions: 47 Behavioral Attributes items, 10 Memorization items, and 40 Written Comprehension, Written Expression, Deductive Reasoning, and Inductive Reasoning items. Total time is about 1.5 hours.
What score do I need to pass the CJBAT?
Passing status requires 70 or higher across all three sections and at least 30 correct out of the 50 questions in Sections II and III. The result is pass/fail - no numeric scores are released to candidates, academies, or agencies.
Who is exempt from the CJBAT?
As of July 1, 2022, certain law-enforcement academy candidates are exempt if they are eligible veterans or hold an associate degree or higher from an accredited college. FDLE states this exemption does not apply to corrections academy candidates.
How much does the CJBAT cost and where is it taken?
The Pearson VUE FDLE handbook lists the fee as $39, paid at reservation, non-refundable, and non-transferable. FDLE says the test is administered only within Florida; you register through Pearson VUE.
Can I retake the CJBAT if I fail?
Yes. A new $39 fee applies each time, and you must wait 24 hours after a failed exam before making a retake reservation. FDLE states the test cannot be taken more than three times per discipline in any 12-month period.
