  2. Similar words sound alike. Words of similar length that contain the same vowel sounds are apt to sound alike. Special care is necessary to ensure proper pronunciation so the receiver does not mis-copy a clearance, altitude, or position.

  • If you know the channel is poor (readability 2–3 on the signal-check scale taught later), slow slightly and emphasize phonetics/numbers—but still keep the rate constant, not stop-start.

Rhythm: ordinary conversation, no fillers

The second dedicated point in §5.1 is rhythm:
