Can You Take the API 510 Exam?

Education
BS or higher in engineering/technology, associate degree or certificate, high school diploma/equivalent, or no formal education pathway.
Experience
1 year with a BS or higher in engineering/technology or 3+ years of technical military service; 2 years with an associate degree/certificate or 2 years of technical military service; 3 years with high school; 5 or more years with no formal education. At least 1 year must involve supervision or performance of API 510-type inspection activities except for the BS-or-higher pathway where the single year is already in inspection supervision/performance.
Additional Requirements
  • Experience must be documented on the application and is subject to API verification.
  • The exam is an in-person core ICP program delivered through Prometric test centers.
  • API 510 certification must be recertified every 3 years through work requirements and continuing professional development.
