About the NM CID GS-24 Exam
The New Mexico CID GS-24 examination covers structural steel erection. The official open-book PSI exam has 40 scored questions, a 75% passing standard (30 points), and 120 minutes allowed. Allowed references include the Handbook of Rigging (5th, 2009), Steel Joist Institute Technical Digest No. 9 (2025), Principles and Practices of Commercial Construction (9th, 2014), OSHA 29 CFR 1926, and the SDI Manual of Construction with Steel Deck (2nd, 2006). NMAC 14.6.6 GS-24 authorizes on-site fabrication and erection of structural steel shapes and plates, including riveting and welding, and does not authorize concrete foundations or complete buildings. Two years of foreman-level practical or related trade experience is required. PSI lists the fee at USD 68.88 (bulletin updated 4/3/2026).
