Sample ATLAS Algebra I EOC Practice Questions

Try these sample questions to review concepts for the ATLAS Algebra I EOC exam. Each question includes a detailed explanation. Start the interactive quiz above for the full 100+ question experience with AI tutoring.

1Simplify 5(2x - 3) + 4x.
A.10x - 3
B.14x - 15
C.10x - 15
D.14x - 3
Explanation: Distribute 5: 10x - 15. Combine like terms with 4x: 10x + 4x - 15 = 14x - 15.
2If f(x) = 3x - 7, what is f(4)?
A.5
B.12
C.-5
D.19
Explanation: Substitute x = 4: f(4) = 3(4) - 7 = 12 - 7 = 5.
3Simplify (6x^2 + 4x) - (2x^2 - 3x).
A.4x^2 + 7x
B.4x^2 + x
C.8x^2 + 7x
D.4x^2 - 7x
Explanation: Distribute the minus: 6x^2 + 4x - 2x^2 + 3x = 4x^2 + 7x.
4What is the domain of f(x) = 2x + 1 when x is any real number?
A.All real numbers
B.x >= 0
C.x > 1
D.x != 0
Explanation: A linear polynomial is defined for every real input, so the domain is all real numbers.
5A spinner has 4 equal sections labeled A, B, C, and D. What is P(lands on B)?
A.1/2
B.1/3
C.1/4
D.1
Explanation: One favorable outcome out of four equally likely outcomes: P(B) = 1/4.
6Simplify 2(x + 5) - 3(x - 1).
A.-x + 13
B.-x + 7
C.5x + 7
D.-x - 13
Explanation: 2x + 10 - 3x + 3 = -x + 13.
7If g(x) = x^2 - 5, what is g(-3)?
A.4
B.-14
C.14
D.-4
Explanation: g(-3) = (-3)^2 - 5 = 9 - 5 = 4.
8A two-way table shows 20 students: 12 play soccer, and of those, 5 also play basketball. How many soccer players do not play basketball?
A.5
B.7
C.8
D.12
Explanation: Soccer players not playing basketball: 12 - 5 = 7.
9Simplify (3x - 2)(x + 4).
A.3x^2 + 10x - 8
B.3x^2 + 12x - 8
C.3x^2 + 10x + 8
D.3x^2 - 8
Explanation: FOIL: 3x^2 + 12x - 2x - 8 = 3x^2 + 10x - 8.
10What is the range of f(x) = |x| + 2 for real x?
A.y >= 2
B.y >= 0
C.all real numbers
D.y > 2
Explanation: |x| >= 0, so |x| + 2 >= 2. The minimum 2 occurs at x = 0, so the range is y >= 2.

About the ATLAS Algebra I EOC Exam

The Arkansas ATLAS Algebra I End-of-Course Assessment is part of the Arkansas Teaching, Learning, and Assessment System summative program administered by the Division of Elementary and Secondary Education. It measures student achievement of Arkansas Academic Standards in Algebra I for students completing the Algebra I course. Algebra I EOC is course-based; eligible students take it upon completion of Algebra I rather than (or in place of, when applicable) grade-level math. The official assessment is computer-adaptive within the grade or course, includes multiple item types (and for ELA a writing component), and is untimed under PATH rules. Results are reported in four performance levels (Level 1–Level 4), with Level 3 or higher indicating grade-level achievement. OpenExamPrep offers free English multiple-choice practice covering topics from ATLAS reporting categories as a study aid—not official items or a full format simulation.

Exam sponsor: Arkansas Division of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE); delivered by Cambium Assessment, Inc. (CAI) for the Arkansas Department of Education / DESE. The requirements and fees below concern the certification or admission exam, separate from our free practice resources.

ATLAS Algebra I EOC: Suggested Study Strategy

1Study the Arkansas Academic Standards and ATLAS reporting categories for Algebra I rather than memorizing random trivia.
2Use the free ATLAS practice/training tests on the official ATLAS portal so students know the online tools before test day.
3Build stamina with untimed practice sessions that mirror one content subject per sitting, matching PATH scheduling guidance.
4Review wrong answers by explaining why each distractor is incorrect using evidence or calculation steps.
5Work multi-step problems and modeling tasks: the official blueprint targets roughly half its items at DOK 2 and about a quarter at DOK 3, so recall alone is not enough.
6Linear Functions, Equations, & Inequalities is the single largest reporting category at 31%, but quadratics and exponentials together are another 44% — do not skip them.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Arkansas ATLAS Algebra I end-of-course assessment?

It is the statewide end-of-course summative assessment in the Arkansas Teaching, Learning, and Assessment System (ATLAS) for Algebra I, administered by DESE and aligned to Arkansas Academic Standards. Results are used for school accountability and to report student achievement.

Who takes this ATLAS assessment?

Arkansas public school students enrolled in the corresponding grade (for grade-level tests) or EOC-eligible course (Algebra I, Geometry, or Biology). Accelerated students may take math EOCs in place of grade-level math when enrolled in the course. Students who qualify for the alternate assessment take DLM instead.

How many questions are on the official ATLAS test?

Official EOC blueprint: 47 operational items — Linear Functions, Equations, & Inequalities 14–16 items (31%), Expressions/Functions/Statistics & Probability 11–13 items (25%), Quadratic Functions & Equations 10–12 items (23%), and Exponential Functions & Equations 10–11 items (21%) (Arkansas Mathematics Standards Interim and Summative Blueprint, DESE, updated July 28, 2025).

Is ATLAS timed?

No. Official PATH guidance states ATLAS 3–10 content and EOC tests are untimed. Schools schedule minimum sit times for planning, and students should finish a summative content test within one instructional day.

What score is considered proficient?

ATLAS reports four performance levels (Level 1–Level 4). Level 3 or higher indicates achievement aligned to grade-level Arkansas Academic Standards based on the 2024 standard-setting cut scores.

Are these practice questions the real ATLAS exam?

No. These free multiple-choice practice questions are a study aid covering topics from Arkansas standards and ATLAS reporting categories. They are not official ATLAS items and do not replace authentic reading/writing, multi-step math modeling, science investigations, or the official computer-adaptive assessment.
