About the TOEFL Primary Step 2 Exam
The TOEFL Primary Reading and Listening Test - Step 2 is an English-proficiency test from ETS designed for young learners aged about 8 and older who have already acquired some communicative English skills. It is the more advanced of the two TOEFL Primary Reading and Listening levels, and is harder than Step 1, measuring the ability to understand longer stories, simple academic texts on science, history and geography, some unfamiliar vocabulary in context, and to infer and draw conclusions. The test has two all-multiple-choice sections: a 30-minute Reading section with 36 scored questions and an audio-paced Listening section with 36 scored questions. Reading uses sentence clues and reading sets (signs, schedules, menus, e-mails, instructions, stories and informational texts), while Listening uses directions, conversation details, messages and listening sets. There is no pass or fail; results are reported as a scaled score of 104-115 with a Badge level of 1-5 mapped to CEFR levels A1-B1, plus a Lexile reading measure. ETS recommends scores be considered current for about one year because young learners develop quickly.
