1Which combination matches Romania's Category BE definition in OUG 195/2002 Annex 1?
A.A Category B towing vehicle and a trailer not over 750 kg
B.A combination over 4,250 kg MAM consisting of a Category B towing vehicle and a trailer or semi-trailer not over 3,500 kg MAM
C.Any Category C truck with a trailer not over 750 kg
D.Any car-trailer combination regardless of trailer mass
Explanation: The Romanian BE definition includes a combination MAM exceeding 4,250 kg and a trailer MAM not exceeding 3,500 kg. A trailer over 750 kg does not by itself establish that BE is required; the Category B rules must also be considered.
2Which entitlement covers a Category C goods vehicle towing a trailer or semi-trailer over 750 kg MAM?
A.C alone
B.CE
C.C1 alone
D.BE
Explanation: CE covers a Category C towing vehicle combined with a trailer or semi-trailer over 750 kg MAM. The towing vehicle's category and trailer mass must both be considered.
3Which base licence category is the statutory prerequisite for obtaining CE?
A.B
B.C
C.D
D.Tr
Explanation: The base entitlement for CE is C. Holding a different base category does not replace that prerequisite.
4A Category D coach tows a separate luggage trailer over 750 kg MAM. Which combination entitlement applies?
A.DE
B.D alone
C.BE
D.C1E
Explanation: DE covers a Category D passenger vehicle towing a trailer over 750 kg MAM. An articulated bus constructed as one vehicle is a different situation from this separate trailer.
5A Romanian driver holds both C and D and then obtains CE. Which statutory equivalence is relevant?
A.CE can also cover DE because the driver already holds D
B.CE cancels the existing D entitlement
C.CE covers DE even if the driver has never held D
D.CE cannot cover BE
Explanation: OUG 195/2002 provides CE-to-DE validity when the holder also has D. It also gives relevant trailer-category downward validity, including BE; the D prerequisite must not be omitted.
6Before fitting a European 50 mm ball coupling to a tow ball, what is the appropriate compatibility check?
A.Check only that the coupling can be forced shut
B.Confirm the marked size, ratings, wear condition and manufacturer compatibility
C.Use any ball that looks approximately the same size
D.Choose the largest ball available
Explanation: A nominal size alone does not establish a safe coupling. The approved components must also be compatible, within their load ratings and free of unacceptable wear.
7What does a breakaway cable on an overrun-braked trailer do if the trailer separates from the towing vehicle?
A.Supplies the trailer's lighting earth connection
B.Pulls the emergency braking mechanism before the cable separates
C.Stabilizes the trailer during normal cornering
D.Supports the drawbar during routine parking
Explanation: A correctly installed breakaway cable activates the trailer's emergency brake if the coupling separates. It is distinct from a secondary retaining chain intended to keep an unbraked trailer connected.
8A towing hitch has a designated breakaway-cable eye. How should the cable be installed?
A.Attach it as instructed to the designated eye and route it so normal turns do not pull the brake on
B.Loop it around the jockey wheel
C.Make it taut with the combination straight
D.Attach it to the electrical lead so both disconnect together
Explanation: AL-KO instructions require correct routing and attachment to the eye when provided. The cable needs the specified freedom for cornering while remaining able to activate the brake if separation occurs.
9What is the fifth wheel on a tractor unit?
A.The coupling plate that supports the semi-trailer and locks around its kingpin
B.The trailer's front support leg
C.The spare-wheel mounting bracket
D.The trailer parking-brake valve
Explanation: The fifth wheel supports part of the semi-trailer load and secures its kingpin. Its locking mechanism must be checked before the combination is moved.
10What is the purpose of a controlled tug test after fifth-wheel coupling?
A.To prove the trailer's lights work
B.To check that the coupling holds against the applied trailer brakes, alongside a visual locking check
C.To test the engine at maximum power
D.To replace all inspection of the locking mechanism
Explanation: A gentle pull against the braked trailer helps check mechanical engagement. JOST also requires visual inspection, so passing the tug test does not replace looking at the lock and coupling plates.

About the Romania Trailer Theory Exam

Independent practice for Romania's BE, CE, C1E, DE and D1E trailer-combination theory topics. 'E' is a convenient shared study label, not a standalone current Romanian licence category or a combined official examination. The relevant category tests share the 11-question, 15-minute, 9-correct format. This is an English-language MCQ study adaptation, not an official translation or simulation of official language or multi-answer selection. It does not replace category-specific instruction or practical coupling and driving assessment.

Romania Trailer Theory: Suggested Study Strategy

1Start with your towing vehicle's category and distinguish entitlement limits from the technical ratings of the combination.
2Learn the actual manufacturer's coupling procedure; practise inspection and coupling with a qualified instructor.
3Study official multi-answer selection separately and use the relevant category in the DGPCI service.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is there a single Category E licence or combined E exam?

No. This page groups independent study for BE, CE, C1E, DE and D1E. Apply for the actual category relevant to the towing vehicle; its assessment and entitlement remain category-specific.

How does the official theory test differ from this bank?

The relevant official category test has 11 questions in 15 minutes and needs 9 correct. Its three answer variants can contain multiple correct answers. This independent English-language MCQ adaptation has four options and one best answer; it is not an official translation or format simulation.

What official languages are available?

Romanian is standard. National-minority Romanian applicants can request their mother tongue, including Hungarian or German; eligible foreign applicants can request English, French or German under Article 5 of Order 268/2010. Confirm arrangements and eligibility with SPCRPCIV.

What practical work is required?

The ordinary licensing route includes approved theory and practical training and a practical combination-driving assessment, including relevant safety checks and coupling or uncoupling tasks. No separate essay, oral exam, graded assignment or case-study submission is specified. These MCQs cannot replace that practical work.

Which prerequisites apply?

Hold the corresponding base licence and meet the category's age, fitness, training, residence or qualifying study, examination-file and legal eligibility requirements. Ordinary minimum ages are 18 for BE/C1E, 21 for CE/D1E and 24 for DE, with statutory professional-training exceptions where applicable.

Are tachograph rules the same for every trailer?

No. Their application depends on the vehicle, transport activity and statutory exemptions. The heavy-combination scenarios in this bank expressly assume an operation within the relevant EU rules; they do not impose those rules on every BE journey.
