1A merchant in Asunción purchases inventory for Gs. 240,000 and establishes a selling price based on a 25% markup on the cost price. What is the selling price of the merchandise?
A.Gs. 280,000
B.Gs. 300,000
C.Gs. 320,000
D.Gs. 360,000
Explanation: A 25% markup on a cost of Gs. 240,000 equals Gs. 60,000 (0.25 * 240,000). Adding the markup to the cost yields a selling price of Gs. 300,000 (240,000 + 60,000).
2Solve the linear equation for x: 5(x - 3) + 4 = 2(x + 5) + 3.
A.x = 6
B.x = 7
C.x = 8
D.x = 9
Explanation: Expanding both sides gives 5x - 15 + 4 = 2x + 10 + 3, simplifying to 5x - 11 = 2x + 13. Subtracting 2x from both sides and adding 11 yields 3x = 24, which gives x = 8.
3A company purchases 20 office chairs for a total of Gs. 2,160,000. Standard chairs cost Gs. 80,000 each and executive chairs cost Gs. 150,000 each. How many executive chairs were purchased?
A.6
B.8
C.10
D.12
Explanation: Let s be the number of standard chairs and e be the executive chairs. We have s + e = 20 and 80,000s + 150,000e = 2,160,000. Substituting s = 20 - e into the budget equation gives 80,000(20 - e) + 150,000e = 2,160,000, simplifying to 1,600,000 + 70,000e = 2,160,000. This yields 70,000e = 560,000, so e = 8.
4A commercial invoice lists merchandise at Gs. 500,000. The supplier offers chain discounts of 10% and 5% for prompt cash payment. What is the final net payable amount?
A.Gs. 425,000
B.Gs. 427,500
C.Gs. 430,000
D.Gs. 445,000
Explanation: Successive discounts are calculated sequentially on the diminishing balance. The first 10% discount reduces the price to Gs. 450,000 (500,000 * 0.90). The second 5% discount reduces that balance by Gs. 22,500 (450,000 * 0.05), resulting in a net payable amount of Gs. 427,500 (450,000 * 0.95).
5Two business partners, Carlos and María, agree to distribute an annual net profit of Gs. 40,000,000 in proportion to their initial capital contributions of 3 to 5. How much profit does María receive?
A.Gs. 15,000,000
B.Gs. 20,000,000
C.Gs. 24,000,000
D.Gs. 25,000,000
Explanation: The ratio 3:5 represents 3 + 5 = 8 equal parts of the total profit. Dividing Gs. 40,000,000 by 8 yields Gs. 5,000,000 per part. Since María holds 5 parts, her share is 5 * 5,000,000 = Gs. 25,000,000 (while Carlos receives 3 * 5,000,000 = Gs. 15,000,000).
6Factor the algebraic expression completely: 4a^2 - 12ab + 9b^2 - 16.
A.(2a - 3b - 4)(2a - 3b + 4)
B.(2a + 3b - 4)(2a + 3b + 4)
C.(4a - 3b - 2)(4a - 3b + 2)
D.(2a - 3b - 16)(2a - 3b + 1)
Explanation: Group the first three terms as a perfect square trinomial: 4a^2 - 12ab + 9b^2 = (2a - 3b)^2. The expression becomes (2a - 3b)^2 - 4^2. Applying the difference of two squares formula, x^2 - y^2 = (x - y)(x + y), gives (2a - 3b - 4)(2a - 3b + 4).
7A rectangular storage facility has a perimeter of 96 meters. If its length is 8 meters greater than its width, what is the area of the facility floor?
A.520 m^2
B.540 m^2
C.560 m^2
D.576 m^2
Explanation: Let w be the width. The length is l = w + 8. The perimeter is 2(w + l) = 96, so w + l = 48. Substituting l gives w + w + 8 = 48 => 2w = 40 => w = 20 meters. The length is l = 28 meters. The area is width * length = 20 * 28 = 560 square meters.
8A manufacturing company has fixed monthly operating expenses of Gs. 18,000,000. It produces goods with a variable cost of Gs. 35,000 per unit and sells them for Gs. 60,000 per unit. How many units must be produced and sold in a month to achieve a target operating profit of Gs. 12,000,000?
A.720 units
B.960 units
C.1,200 units
D.1,500 units
Explanation: The unit contribution margin is selling price minus variable cost: Gs. 60,000 - Gs. 35,000 = Gs. 25,000 per unit. Required sales volume Q satisfies: (Contribution Margin * Q) - Fixed Costs = Target Profit. Therefore, 25,000 * Q = 18,000,000 + 12,000,000 = 30,000,000, yielding Q = 30,000,000 / 25,000 = 1,200 units.
9A capital deposit of Gs. 2,000,000 is invested in a bank certificate paying an annual compound interest rate of 10% compounded annually. What is the accumulated balance at the end of 3 years?
A.Gs. 2,600,000
B.Gs. 2,662,000
C.Gs. 2,720,000
D.Gs. 2,800,000
Explanation: Using the compound interest formula A = P(1 + r)^t, we have A = 2,000,000 * (1.10)^3 = 2,000,000 * 1.331 = Gs. 2,662,000. Year 1 ends with 2,200,000; Year 2 with 2,420,000; and Year 3 with 2,662,000.
10A rectangular commercial parcel has a width of 15 meters and a diagonal measurement of 25 meters. What is the length of the parcel?
A.18 m
B.20 m
C.21 m
D.22 m
Explanation: By the Pythagorean theorem in a right triangle, width^2 + length^2 = diagonal^2. Thus, 15^2 + length^2 = 25^2 => 225 + length^2 = 625 => length^2 = 400. Taking the square root gives length = 20 meters (forming a 3-4-5 proportional right triangle scaled by a factor of 5).

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the CPA compulsory?

No. The faculty explicitly permits independent applicants to register. No separate oral, practical, case-study, or mandatory coursework assessment was identified on that direct route.

How are places awarded?

The three 30-point papers contribute equally to ranking. Ties use Mathematics, Castellano, and then the school average. The 2027 notice lists 360 Contaduría Pública, 250 Administración, and 120 Economía places.

Who qualifies for Arancel Cero?

The current notice lists eligible public or subsidized school graduates from the 2022–2026 cohorts; applicants must submit the faculty's required exemption documents.
