1Which set lists the five action areas of the Ottawa Charter for Health Promotion (1986)?
A.Primary, secondary, tertiary, quaternary and primordial prevention, applied across the natural history of disease
B.Healthy public policy, supportive environments, community action, personal skills and reoriented health services
C.Universal vaccination, basic sanitation, adequate nutrition, early screening and physical rehabilitation for all ages
D.Assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation and evaluation of care for individuals, families and communities
Explanation: The Ottawa Charter defines health promotion as enabling people to increase control over their health and sets five action areas: healthy public policy, supportive environments, community action, personal skills and the reorientation of health services toward prevention and promotion.
2A nurse helps neighbors organize a committee that maps water-storage containers and runs monthly clean-up days to reduce dengue. Which health promotion strategy is mainly being applied?
A.Reorienting hospital services
B.Tertiary prevention
C.Individual clinical treatment
D.Strengthening community action and participation
Explanation: When the community itself identifies a problem, sets priorities and acts on it, the strategy is strengthening community action. Participation builds ownership and makes measures such as container control more sustainable than campaigns run only by the health service.
3Which declaration first set primary health care as the key strategy for 'health for all', later renewed by the Declaration of Astana in 2018?
A.The Declaration of Alma-Ata (1978)
B.The Ottawa Charter (1986)
C.The Declaration of Helsinki of the WMA (1964)
D.The Millennium Declaration (2000)
Explanation: The 1978 Alma-Ata Declaration defined primary health care as essential, accessible care based on practical methods and community participation, and made it the route to 'health for all'. The 2018 Astana Declaration renewed that commitment in the context of universal health coverage.
4What is the first step when a community health nursing team prepares a community health diagnosis (diagnóstico de salud comunitario)?
A.Collecting demographic, social, environmental and health data
B.Designing the intervention program and estimating its full budget
C.Evaluating the results of the last year's program
D.Selecting the health education materials to distribute
Explanation: A community diagnosis starts by gathering information on population, living conditions, environment, services and morbidity and mortality. The problems are then analyzed and prioritized, and only after that are programs planned, carried out and evaluated.
5Nola Pender's model is widely used in community nursing. What does it mainly explain?
A.How self-care deficits determine the type of nursing system needed
B.How the physical environment influences recovery from illness
C.The phases of the nurse-patient interpersonal relationship
D.The factors that lead people to adopt health-promoting behaviors
Explanation: Pender's Health Promotion Model explains how individual characteristics and experiences, together with behavior-specific beliefs such as perceived benefits, barriers and self-efficacy, lead to health-promoting behavior. It guides counseling aimed at changing lifestyle.
6Which statement best distinguishes health promotion from disease prevention?
A.Health promotion is done only by physicians, while prevention is done only by nurses
B.Promotion acts on health determinants; prevention targets specific diseases
C.Health promotion only means vaccinating, while prevention only means health education
D.They are two names for exactly the same set of activities in primary care
Explanation: Prevention is organized around specific diseases and their risk factors (for example immunization or screening). Health promotion works on the broader determinants of health and on people's capacities, through public policy, supportive environments and community action.
7In the WHO framework on social determinants of health, which of the following is a structural determinant?
A.Blood pressure
B.Body mass index
C.Serum glucose
D.Level of education and income
Explanation: Structural determinants, such as income, education, occupation, gender and ethnicity, place people in social positions that shape their exposure and vulnerability to disease. They act through intermediary factors such as housing, working conditions and behaviors.
8A school nurse wants to reduce sugary-drink consumption among students. Which action best reflects the health promotion approach of creating supportive environments?
A.Measuring each student's blood glucose once a year at school
B.Arranging free drinking water and healthy cafeteria options
C.Referring overweight students to a hospital endocrinologist
D.Giving each student a pamphlet on the complications of diabetes
Explanation: Supportive environments make the healthy choice the easy choice. Free drinking water and healthier cafeteria options change the setting in which students decide, which is more effective than information alone.
9In a community with many new cases of type 2 diabetes, which indicator measures how often new cases appear?
A.Prevalence
B.Case-fatality rate
C.Incidence
D.Life expectancy
Explanation: Incidence counts new cases in a population at risk over a defined period, so it shows how quickly the disease is appearing. Prevalence counts all existing cases at a given time.
10Empowerment in health promotion is best described as:
A.Health staff making every decision on behalf of the community
B.Imposing sanctions on people who do not follow medical advice
C.Distributing medicines and supplies free of charge to families
D.People gaining control over decisions that affect their health
Explanation: Empowerment is the process by which individuals and communities gain the knowledge, skills and influence to make decisions about their health. It is a core value of the Ottawa Charter and of community nursing.

Why is this practice bank in English if the official exam is in Spanish?

The official Ceneval exam is in Spanish. This bank is an independent English-language study adaptation with four-option questions, not an official translation or format simulation, so you can review the nursing content. Official Mexican names (NOM, Acciones Esenciales para la Seguridad del Paciente, RPBI, Plato del Bien Comer) are kept in Spanish. The bank covers the disciplinary areas only.
