About the TN POST Exam

Tennessee has no single state POST certification exam. A full-time officer who meets the Peace Officer Standards and Training Commission's pre-employment requirements completes a certified Basic Law Enforcement Course of at least 488 hours, and each academy tests every curriculum component, which must be passed with at least 75%. The curriculum covers criminal and constitutional law and procedures (including Tennessee offenses and traffic offenses), patrol procedures, firearms, physical defense tactics, emergency vehicle operations, human relations, communications and professional conduct.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the TN POST vocabulary game free?

Yes. The game is free to play with no sign-up. Signing in adds AI explanations for any term.

How do the TN POST vocabulary games work?

There are 4 games built on 20 TN POST terms. In Guess the Term, a clue describes one term and you have six tries to spell it, with green, yellow and gray letters showing how close you are. In Term Match, six terms appear as colored tiles; swap neighbors to line up three or more of the same term, and each match shows what the term means. In Term Pairs, twelve face-down cards hide six pairs of terms; flip two at a time to find each pair, and every pair you find shows what the term means. In Term Search, five terms hide in a grid of letters, reading across, down or diagonally; drag across a term to circle it, and each term you find shows what it means.

Where do the TN POST terms come from?

OpenExamPrep researched each term from the Tennessee Peace Officer Standards and Training Commission (TN POST) content outline and primary sources, listed under Sources on this page. The game is independent study material, not an official exam resource.

What is the TN POST passing score?

Tennessee has no single state POST exam with one passing score. Recruits must score at least 75% on each component of the Basic Law Enforcement Course, and in firearms must also show at least 75% proficiency in daylight and darkness.

How hard is the Tennessee peace officer exam?

Difficulty depends on the academy's own tests, since each certified academy writes tests tied to its training objectives. The course runs at least 488 hours, every component must be passed at 75% or better, and no pass rate is published.
