About the NV POST Exam
Nevada's state certification examination is a comprehensive test of the subjects in the minimum training standards for each training category (I, II, III and reserve). Officers take it after a POST-approved basic academy while employed by a Nevada agency, need at least 70 percent, and must also pass the state physical fitness examination to receive a basic certificate. The academy curriculum covers law and legal procedures, patrol operations and investigations, performance skills, and the functions of a peace officer.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is the NV POST vocabulary game free?
Yes. The game is free to play with no sign-up. Signing in adds AI explanations for any term.
How do the NV POST vocabulary games work?
There are 4 games built on 20 NV POST terms. In Guess the Term, a clue describes one term and you have six tries to spell it, with green, yellow and gray letters showing how close you are. In Term Match, six terms appear as colored tiles; swap neighbors to line up three or more of the same term, and each match shows what the term means. In Term Pairs, twelve face-down cards hide six pairs of terms; flip two at a time to find each pair, and every pair you find shows what the term means. In Term Search, five terms hide in a grid of letters, reading across, down or diagonally; drag across a term to circle it, and each term you find shows what it means.
Where do the NV POST terms come from?
OpenExamPrep researched each term from the Nevada Peace Officers' Standards and Training Commission (NV POST) content outline and primary sources, listed under Sources on this page. The game is independent study material, not an official exam resource.
What is the NV POST passing score?
Nevada requires a score of at least 70 percent on the state certification examination (NAC 289.200). A basic certificate also requires completing the basic training course and passing the state physical fitness examination.
How hard is the Nevada peace officer exam?
The state certification examination is a comprehensive test of the minimum training standards for your training category, so it follows the academy's Nevada performance objectives: criminal law under NRS Title 15, constitutional law, patrol procedures, use of force and professional conduct. POST does not publish pass rates for it.
