About the NJ Bar Exam
The New Jersey Bar Examination is the Uniform Bar Examination (UBE), which New Jersey adopted beginning with the February 2017 administration. It is a two-day exam: Day 1 (Tuesday) consists of two 90-minute Multistate Performance Test (MPT) tasks in the morning and six 30-minute Multistate Essay Examination (MEE) questions in the afternoon; Day 2 (Wednesday) is the 200-question Multistate Bar Examination (MBE) in two three-hour sessions. The MBE counts for 50% of the score, the MEE 30%, and the MPT 20%. Applicants must earn a combined scaled score of 266 out of 400, and that score is portable to other UBE jurisdictions.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is the NJ Bar vocabulary game free?
Yes. The game is free to play with no sign-up. Signing in adds AI explanations for any term.
How do the NJ Bar vocabulary games work?
There are 4 games built on 20 NJ Bar terms. In Guess the Term, a clue describes one term and you have six tries to spell it, with green, yellow and gray letters showing how close you are. In Term Match, six terms appear as colored tiles; swap neighbors to line up three or more of the same term, and each match shows what the term means. In Term Pairs, twelve face-down cards hide six pairs of terms; flip two at a time to find each pair, and every pair you find shows what the term means. In Term Search, five terms hide in a grid of letters, reading across, down or diagonally; drag across a term to circle it, and each term you find shows what it means.
Where do the NJ Bar terms come from?
OpenExamPrep researched each term from the New Jersey Board of Bar Examiners content outline and primary sources, listed under Sources on this page. The game is independent study material, not an official exam resource.
What is the passing score for the New Jersey Bar Exam?
New Jersey requires a combined scaled Uniform Bar Examination (UBE) score of 266 out of 400. The MBE counts for 50% of the score, the MEE for 30%, and the MPT for 20%. Because New Jersey is a UBE jurisdiction, a qualifying 266+ score is portable and may be transferred to other UBE states (and a qualifying score earned elsewhere may be transferred into New Jersey, generally within 36 months).
How is the New Jersey Bar Exam structured?
New Jersey administers the UBE over two days. Day 1 (Tuesday) consists of two 90-minute Multistate Performance Test (MPT) tasks in the morning and six 30-minute Multistate Essay Examination (MEE) questions in the afternoon. Day 2 (Wednesday) is the 200-question Multistate Bar Examination (MBE), administered in two three-hour sessions of 100 questions each. The exam is offered in February and July.
