About the NH POST Exam

New Hampshire has no single state POST certification exam. A recruit is first hired by a law enforcement agency and passes a physical fitness entrance test, then completes the Police Standards and Training Council's 16-week full-time academy within 6 months of hire. The minimum passing grade on each written and practical assessment is 70%, and every subject must be passed; graduates are certified by the Council.

Exam sponsor: New Hampshire Police Standards and Training Council (NH PSTC). The requirements and fees below concern the certification or admission exam, separate from our free practice resources.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the NH POST vocabulary game free?

Yes. The game is free to play with no sign-up. Signing in adds AI explanations for any term.

How do the NH POST vocabulary games work?

There are 4 games built on 20 NH POST terms. In Guess the Term, a clue describes one term and you have six tries to spell it, with green, yellow and gray letters showing how close you are. In Term Match, six terms appear as colored tiles; swap neighbors to line up three or more of the same term, and each match shows what the term means. In Term Pairs, twelve face-down cards hide six pairs of terms; flip two at a time to find each pair, and every pair you find shows what the term means. In Term Search, five terms hide in a grid of letters, reading across, down or diagonally; drag across a term to circle it, and each term you find shows what it means.

Where do the NH POST terms come from?

OpenExamPrep researched each term from the New Hampshire Police Standards and Training Council (NH PSTC) content outline and primary sources, listed under Sources on this page. The game is independent study material, not an official exam resource.

What is the NH POST passing score?

New Hampshire has no single state exam. The minimum passing grade on each academy assessment is 70%, and recruits must pass every subject to graduate; an overall average of 70% is not enough.

How hard is the New Hampshire peace officer exam?

The academy combines academic subjects such as the criminal code and constitutional law, practical subjects such as human relations, and physical skills such as arrest and control tactics, emergency driving and firearms. Subjects are graded by written tests and practical demonstrations, each must be passed at 70% or better, and no pass rate is published.
