Frequently Asked Questions

What is the FPGEE pass rate?

The FPGEE pass rate was approximately 91% in 2024, according to NABP's 2024-2025 Annual Report. The exam uses scaled scoring from 0-100, and a score of 75 is required to pass.

How many times can I retake the FPGEE if I fail?

Candidates may retake the FPGEE up to 5 times total within their 2-year FPGEC eligibility window. NABP administers the FPGEE only once per year at Pearson VUE sites in the continental US, so a failed attempt means waiting a full year for the next test date, not a short fixed waiting period like many other exams.

What is on the FPGEE?

The FPGEE covers 4 blueprint domains: Basic Biomedical Sciences (12%), Pharmaceutical Sciences (31%), Social/Behavioral/Administrative Sciences (20%), and Pharmacy Practice & Clinical Sciences (37%, the largest domain). It has 200 computer-based, fixed-form questions over 4.5 hours (5.5-hour total seat time).

Do I need a sponsor or job offer to take the FPGEE?

No employer sponsorship is required. Instead, candidates must first be accepted into NABP's FPGEC Certification process - which includes an education credential evaluation and a passing TOEFL iBT score - before they can register for the FPGEE.

What comes after passing the FPGEE?

Passing the FPGEE, along with meeting TOEFL and credential requirements, leads to FPGEC certification. That certification makes a candidate eligible to sit for the NAPLEX and, ultimately, a state-specific pharmacy law exam (MPJE or equivalent) on the path to US pharmacist licensure.
