Frequently Asked Questions

How many questions and how much time does ASE P2 have?

ASE lists P2 as 85 total multiple-choice questions: 75 scored questions plus 10 research questions, with 90 minutes for the certification test. The research questions are not identified during the test, so answer every item.

What passing score do I need for ASE P2?

ASE does not publish a fixed P2 passing percentage or raw-score cutoff. Prepare across every task-list area instead of aiming for an unofficial target score.

What work experience is required for ASE P2 certification?

ASE requires two years of full-time or part-time-equivalent experience as a parts counterperson or managing a wholesale/retail parts store or in-house parts department. Repair-technician experience does not satisfy the P2 requirement. You may take the test before the experience is approved, but certification is issued only after both requirements are met.

When can I retake ASE P2?

ASE says that after a pass or fail result, you must wait 30 full days before purchasing and scheduling the same test again. The current policy does not publish a longer wait after three failures.

How is ASE P2 weighted?

The official 75 scored questions are weighted General Operations 10, Customer Relations and Sales Skills 11, Vehicle Systems Knowledge 40, Vehicle Identification 3, Catalog and Information Systems Skills 6, Inventory Management 3, and Merchandising 2.
