The Official 2025 Statistics

The UCAT Consortium attaches an explicit warning to these figures: because Abstract Reasoning was removed, 2025 scores are not directly comparable with scores from earlier cycles. Three things this table tells you that a single mean cannot
1. The middle of the distribution is compressed. Between the 4th and 7th deciles — 1820 to 2010 — sits 30% of the entire cohort inside a 190-point band. That is roughly 63 scaled points per decile, or about two or three raw marks per subtest. It is why marginal gains are worth so much: a handful of extra raw marks moves you past thousands of applicants.
2. The top of the distribution stretches out. From the 8th to the 9th decile costs 120 points (2100 → 2220), nearly double the cost of a mid-table decile step. Above the 9th decile the curve steepens further. Chasing a score in the very top percentiles has a genuinely different cost profile from lifting a median score to an above-median one.
3. Subtest deciles do not add up to total deciles — and that is not an error. Add the 9th-decile subtest scores: 700 + 740 + 820 = 2260, but the 9th-decile total is 2220. Each column is ranked independently, and almost nobody sits in the 9th decile of all three subtests simultaneously. The practical reading: you do not need to be top-decile everywhere to post a top-decile total. - Read your SJT band as a filter first. If a university excludes your band, no cognitive score rescues the application — remove it before you weigh anything else.
- Spread the four choices across models. A common, sensible shape is one or two rank-order universities where your score is genuinely competitive, one threshold university you clear comfortably, and one matrix university where your academic record carries weight. Four choices all drawn from the rank-order group is a high-variance strategy that a mid-range score cannot support.
