Connecting a transformer pigtail to a 120-volt receptacle, landing a homerun in a junction box, or terminating feeders at a distribution panel is electrical construction, not "installing an alarm system" under 195.1. Everything else in the definitional list is alarm-system work.
That boundary matters when a master electrician and an alarm technician share a job. The electrician may make the line-voltage landing under a municipal electrical license. The alarm technician still needs Article 6-D authority (a DOS installer license or a master electrician waiver described in section 2.3) to place the panel, detectors, and notification appliances and to program codes, protocol, bypass, and hours.

If an exam stem says the technician is on site to inspect, test, and program so the system will not develop problems, the 195.1 word is maintaining. If the stem says a horn circuit already failed and the technician is replacing the driver and reprogramming the circuit, that is servicing.
Servicing Means Repair After Failure
Servicing means repair, troubleshooting, and replacement of failed equipment, including programming associated with that repair. Servicing starts after something is wrong: a notification appliance circuit that will not run, a detector in trouble that must be replaced, a communicator that will not transmit. Programming done to restore failed equipment is servicing, not a separate unlicensed trade.
Troubleshooting is inside servicing. Replacing failed equipment is inside servicing. Do not create a third category called "service call" that somehow avoids Article 6-D. If the work is repair, troubleshooting, or replacement of failed alarm equipment, it is servicing a security or fire alarm system.
Assisting Covers Presence and Knowledge
Assisting includes on-site or off-site participation and knowledge of:

A dispatcher, a remote technician, or an office employee who never enters the building still assists if they participate in the work or possess that operational knowledge in the course of the business. On-site participation is the easy case: a helper who holds a ladder, terminates a detector, or watches a walk-test is assisting. Off-site participation is the harder case and is expressly included. If the licensed company lets an unlicensed person assist, GBL §69-m still requires SOS-prescribed identification cards issued by the licensee.
Network Means Linked Devices Sharing Data
A network is two or more alarm devices linked — including by ethernet, Wi-Fi, or serial bus — sharing commands or data for security, video, access, detection, or notification. Exam-Day Scenarios

A technician who arrives because the panel already failed and who replaces the board and reloads the program is servicing. A technician who performs a scheduled test and adjusts programming so trouble does not develop is maintaining. Two motion sensors and a keypad on a serial bus sharing bypass commands are a network.
If a choice says the 120-volt connection to the distribution panel is "installing an alarm system" under 195.1, reject it. Direct line-voltage connections to an outlet, junction box, or power panel are excluded.
