Measuring Area

Most national-exam math starts with area. For a rectangle, Area = Length x Width. The trap is mixed units: if width is given in yards and length in feet, convert one side first (1 yard = 3 feet). Finally, mind rounding instructions. Per-square-foot answers are usually rounded to the nearest cent or dollar, acreage to the nearest tenth, and material quantities (concrete, carpet) rounded up to the next whole unit because you cannot buy a partial cubic yard. Read the rounding direction in the stem before selecting an answer choice.
