Continuous and Semi-Continuous Flow Conversion

Sizing Vertical Soil and Waste Stacks
Vertical stacks have higher DFU capacities than horizontal pipes of the same diameter because gravity accelerates water vertically in an annular ring, creating less frictional resistance than half-full horizontal flow.
The UPC uses one vertical figure per pipe size — the "drainage, vertical" row above — plus a maximum vertical length for that size. A 4-inch stack carries up to 256 DFU and may run up to 300 feet vertically; a 3-inch stack carries 48 DFU up to 212 feet.
