11.3 Higher Education Institutions

Students, parents, conference visitors, and staff all hire taxis by campus brand. Part A still only asks: which official place label matches this name?

How to Study Campuses (Three Layers)

1. District-style majors — CityU, Baptist, CUHK, EdUHK, Lingnan, PolyU, HKUST, HKMU, Shue Yan, Hang Seng University.
2. Road-precise campuses — HKU Main Building (Bonham Road); Saint Francis University (Chui Ling Lane).
3. Confuse-pairs — same district doubles; neighbouring NT towns; harbour-side PolyU vs remote Clear Water Bay.

Do not study “ranking” or faculty lists. The Written Test does not care which university is “better”; it cares whether PolyU is Hung Hom and HKUST is Clear Water Bay.

Kowloon Tong Double (Highest-Yield Campus Pair)

Teaching rule: same bucket, not a fake split

CityU and Baptist University both map to Kowloon Tong. This is deliberate same-district twin territory (like Whampoa Garden and Laguna Verde both in Hung Hom). Wrong study habits invent “CityU is one street, Baptist is another district” and then fail when both stems expect Kowloon Tong.

Cross-chapter glue:

• Festival Walk → Tat Chee Avenue (11.1) sits in the same Kowloon Tong geography family.
• Hong Kong Baptist Hospital → Kowloon Tong (Chapter 9) shares the Baptist brand but is a hospital, not the university — read the full stem.

Other NT campuses

• Lingnan University → Tuen Mun sits with the Tuen Mun hospital group geography (Chapter 9) without sharing their road-precise labels. Do not answer Tsing Chung Koon Road for Lingnan unless a Booklet edition explicitly uses that precision for the campus (standard district-style answer taught here is Tuen Mun).
• Hang Seng University → Siu Lek Yuen is a high-yield named-place answer east of Sha Tin. Candidates who only memorise “Sha Tin area” miss Siu Lek Yuen when that string appears. Treat Siu Lek Yuen as its own flashcard.

Harbour-Side & Kowloon Campuses

Confuse-pair: PolyU vs HKUST

Memory hook: PolyU = urban harbour (Hung Hom); HKUST = Clear Water Bay peninsula. Cross-link PolyU with Hong Kong Coliseum → Hung Hom and Whampoa / Laguna Verde → Hung Hom so Hung Hom becomes a multi-content folder.

Other Kowloon / Island fringe campuses

• HKMU (Metropolitan University) → Ho Man Tin — former Open University branding still appears in older notes; the Written Test style cares about the mapped place, Ho Man Tin. Do not confuse with Hung Hom next door.
• Shue Yan University → North Point — Island campus answer. Distractors often show Causeway Bay, Quarry Bay, or Mid-Levels.

• Saint Francis University → Chui Ling Lane is another road-precise higher-education entry. Match Chui Ling Lane when offered; do not invent Tseung Kwan O or Kowloon Bay as a substitute if the road is listed.

3. For Kowloon Tong stems, do not overthink which of the two universities “owns” the district — both do.
4. For NT stems, force the CUHK/EdUHK and Sha Tin/Siu Lek Yuen distinctions before looking at Kowloon distractors.
5. For road-precise stems, hunt the road option first.

1. Cover the place column of the full table; write all twelve mappings.
2. Reverse: from Kowloon Tong, name both universities; from Sha Tin, name CUHK (and mall/hospital reinforcement); from Hung Hom, name PolyU (+ estates/venues).
