1.2 Registration, Fees and Study Package

Registration is where candidates lose days by paying the wrong channel or arriving without a TIN. This section compares the April 2025 booklet path with the current GPF Registration Form so you can follow the live process without throwing away the printed rules. The amount named in the Theoretical Programme is GY$3,500. The live form adds MMG, a 48-hour wait, photographs, and TIN uploads. Both sources are GPF publications. Confirm the payee and the booking steps on the portal before you transfer money.

Quick Answer: Pay GY$3,500 to the Police Finance Office as the booklet states, or through Guyana Police Force, Learner Driver MMG as the current form states. Wait 48 hours after MMG payment. Then book an available date and centre with a passport-sized photo, ID or passport image, and TIN evidence. Use the same ID at the centre. Note your candidate number. Four lectures are a booklet eligibility rule; the Register now says study the manuals then book when ready — confirm on the GPF site.

The GY$3,500 fee and who you pay

The Theoretical Programme says you must satisfy the Traffic Officer that you have:

• Acceptable identification (National ID card or passport photocopy)
• Paid to the Police Finance Office a fee of three thousand, five hundred dollars
• The same form of identification used when purchasing the package ready to present at the examination centre

That is the booklet payee: Police Finance Office. The current Registration Form says payments must be made to Guyana Police Force, Learner Driver MMG before you submit a request for the exam, and that a valid MMG reference number is required. After payment you wait 48 hours for the system to update, then you return to the form to select date and centre.

Teach both rails — do not invent a third

Same amount in the booklet: GY$3,500. Same organisation: Guyana Police Force. Different rails: a Finance Office payment described in the package versus MMG described on the website. Confirm the live payee on the GPF portal before you transfer money. Do not pay a private school and assume GPF has been paid. A driving-school receipt is not an MMG reference and is not a Police Finance Office receipt.

The GY$1,000 figure in the programme is the re-sit fee, not the first registration fee. Drink-driving and hand-held phone fines printed elsewhere in the package are also different numbers. Mix them up and you will underpay or overpay and still not be booked.

Identity, photographs and TIN

Booklet registration requires acceptable identification: a National ID card or passport photocopy. The same form of identification used when purchasing the package must be presented at the examination centre. If you registered on an ID card, do not arrive with only a passport that GPF has never seen, or the reverse.

The current form requires more than a photocopy at the counter:

1. All fields marked with an asterisk are required.
2. A recent passport-sized photograph is required for your user photo.
3. Payments to Learner Driver MMG, then a valid MMG reference.
4. After payment, wait 48 hours, then select date and centre.
5. ID card or passport number, plus a photograph of either the ID card or the passport.
6. If uploading a passport, the biographical page (where the name and picture are found).
7. TIN number and a photo of the TIN certificate.
8. Only available dates appear in the drop-down; keep checking for newly opened dates.

Bring the physical identity document that matches the upload. A mismatch at the centre is a predictable way to be turned away. A cropped selfie is not a passport-sized user photo. A utility bill is not a TIN certificate.

Why TIN appears on a driving theory form

The Registration Form requires the TIN number and a photograph of the TIN certificate. That is an identity-and-tax document GPF has chosen to collect for this booking. This guide does not invent a separate TIN lecture. Treat the upload as a gate: without it, the form is incomplete. If your TIN certificate is unreadable, replace the photo before the 48-hour window closes on a payment you cannot yet book against.

Candidate number

After booklet registration you are allotted a candidate number. The programme tells you to note it for further reference and to quote it when confirming your sitting by telephone at the office where you uplifted the package. The schedule page in the booklet is the place that number is written. Bring that document to tutorial or examinations as the booklet instructs, together with national identification.

If you booked on the portal, keep the MMG reference, the on-screen confirmation, and the same identity number. GPF's form still keys the booking to payment and identity even if the paper candidate-number line was filled at a counter. Write the number down twice. A forgotten candidate number on the morning of the sitting is avoidable.

Forty-eight hours is a published wait

The Registration Form is explicit: after payment you need to wait 48 hours for the system to update your payment information. Then you return and select date and centre. Same-day booking immediately after MMG payment is not what the form describes. Build the wait into your plan, especially if you are travelling from outside Georgetown to an approved centre that only opens on listed dates.

The 48-hour payment wait is not the same clock as the booklet's one month after package issue before the first written examination (section 1.3). Do not collapse them into one delay, and do not ignore either published rule until GPF tells you which clock applies to your booking.

Four lectures versus online booking

The booklet grants four lecture sessions before the first examination and then states it is absolutely necessary to attend all four lectures on the given dates or you will not be eligible to write. Lecture lines in the schedule are four Tuesdays, with time and venue to be filled in. That is a classroom eligibility rule printed in the package.

The Learner Driver Register now says that once you have completed studying the manuals and you are ready to write, you fill out the Registration Form. That is a self-paced booking message, not a four-Tuesday classroom gate.

Treat both as published. The booklet describes a historical classroom eligibility rule. The portal describes studying the three books and booking when ready, after MMG payment has aged 48 hours. Before you skip a lecture, or before you assume lectures are still compulsory, confirm the live requirement on the GPF portal or with Traffic Headquarters. This independent guide will not pick a winner that GPF has not stated in one place.

What 'studying the manuals' means on the Register

The Register's three completed books are not optional colouring-in. Personal study may be individual or in a small group of friends, but the programme still expects you to know the entire syllabus. Booking because a drop-down date is empty is not the same as being ready. The electronic sitting can draw from fitness certificates, licences, insurance, signs, first aid, vehicle systems, defensive driving, and minor offences. If you have not opened the First Aid book or the Road Traffic Code, you have not completed the package the Register named.

Checking the package against the content sheet

The booklet tells you to ensure the package matches the content sheet enclosed. The three titles on the Register are the check: Theoretical Programme, First Aid, Road Traffic Code. If a page is missing, fix it at the office before you start a one-month study clock. Supplementary notes from a friend can help you understand a topic; they do not replace the package GPF said the examination would be derived largely from.

What to confirm on the portal every time

Fees, centre lists, and whether lectures are being run can move. Before you travel, open:

• The Learner Driver Register for the three package titles
• The Registration Form for MMG, 48 hours, photo, TIN, and available dates
