Can You Take the CPRP Exam?

Bachelor's degree from a COAPRT-accredited parks/recreation program, OR a bachelor's or higher in recreation/park resources/a related profession from a regionally accredited institution, OR a bachelor's or higher in any other major, OR an associate degree, OR a high school diploma or equivalency certificate
Experience
0 years (COAPRT-accredited bachelor's); 1 year full-time (related-major bachelor's from a non-COAPRT program); 2 years full-time (bachelor's in an unrelated major); 4 years full-time (associate degree); 6 years full-time (high school diploma or equivalency)
Additional Requirements
  • Eligibility requirements revised by the National Certification Board effective January 1, 2023, replacing the earlier three-pathway model
  • Qualifying experience must be in a recreation, park resources, or a related profession that encompasses each domain of the job analysis
  • Full-time employment is defined by the employer; 1 year of part-time equivalent, seasonal, or temporary employment counts as 6 months of full-time employment, and consultants must supply employer/client reference letters
  • Students in their final semester of a COAPRT-accredited program may sit for the exam before completing the internship and degree; certification is granted after documentation of graduation
  • Qualifying documentation is not required at initial application, but applications are randomly selected for audit; denied applications receive a full refund of application and exam fees
  • Appeals go to the CPRP & CPRE Certification Committee in writing within 45 days
  • One year from registration to take the CPRP exam; a 3-month extension is available for a fee
  • ESL candidates may request a time extension and a strict word-to-word translation dictionary at the time of application

Candidates who fail must submit a new Exam Only Application and pay the applicable exam fee to retest. Reschedule allowed once at no cost if PSI is notified at least one business day before the appointment.
