What do CogAT scores and Ability Profiles mean?

Raw scores count correct responses. Official scoring derives Universal Scale Scores and norm-based results, including Standard Age Scores with mean 100 and standard deviation 16, percentile ranks, and stanines. Age, grade, and local ranks use different comparison groups. An Ability Profile summarizes the median age stanine and relative pattern across batteries; it is not a diagnosis or an automatic placement decision. Read the report’s norm edition and composite labels.

Is there a universal passing score or retest interval?

CogAT has no universal pass/fail threshold. Programs determine how scores and other evidence affect local eligibility. The public owner materials do not establish a universal six- or twelve-month waiting period: Forms 7 and 8 are parallel forms that can support alternate-form retesting. Are scratch paper, calculators, and accommodations allowed?
