There is no pass or fail. Each skill is reported as a CELPIP level from 1 to 12 that converts directly to the Canadian Language Benchmarks (CELPIP 3-12 = CLB 3-12; CELPIP 2 = CLB 1-2). Required levels depend on the program: the Federal Skilled Worker Program needs CLB 7 in all four skills, and many Express Entry candidates aim for CLB 9 or higher.

Part 2 (5 questions): an informal conversation between two people who know each other; track plans, reasons, preferences, and speakers' feelings.

Part 3 (6 questions): a two-speaker conversation in which one person explains information the other needs; locate facts, figures, steps, and exceptions.
