Supervisor Qualifications (16 CCR § 1821)

To supervise an APCC in California, a licensed professional must:

1. Hold an active, unencumbered California license as an LPCC, LMFT, LCSW, Licensed Psychologist, or Board-Certified Psychiatrist.
2. Have held active licensure for at least two (2) years immediately preceding the commencement of supervision.
3. Complete a mandatory 15-hour initial supervisor training course in clinical supervision prior to supervising, and complete 6 hours of continuing education in supervision during each subsequent 2-year license renewal period.
4. Execute a formal Supervisory Agreement and Supervisory Plan with the associate within 60 days of commencing supervision.
5. In private practice settings, a supervisor may supervise no more than 6 associates/trainees at any one time.
