Star Topology & One HC Per Floor

TIA-568.0-E requires horizontal cabling to be installed as a home-run star topology: every work-area outlet connects, via its own dedicated cable, straight back to a single horizontal cross-connect (HC) - no daisy-chaining outlet to outlet, no intermediate active or passive devices splitting the run (a CP is allowed, but it is a single interconnection, not a branch). In practice this means one HC, housed in the floor's telecommunications room (TR), serves the entire floor; a floor whose horizontal reach would exceed the 90 m permanent-link limit needs a second TR/HC, not a daisy-chained extension of the first.

Permanent Link vs. Channel

CPs and the Permanent Link Budget

When a consolidation point sits inside the horizontal run, both of its segments - HC-to-CP and CP-to-outlet - still count toward the single 90 m permanent-link ceiling; a CP does not grant extra distance, it only adds a legal interconnection point partway through the same 90 m budget.
