Licensed roles

Assistive personnel and aides

Avoid an overbroad charting myth. R4-24-304(A)(5) allows a patient-record entry by someone other than a PT or PTA if a PT verifies the entry and co-signs it. That does not authorize an aide to evaluate, alter the plan, or make professional judgments. It means the rule governs authentication rather than imposing a categorical ban on every nonlicensee entry.
Students are a separate category
A student physical therapist is enrolled in a CAPTE-accredited or candidate DPT program. A student physical therapist assistant is enrolled in a CAPTE-accredited or candidate PTA program. On call means the PT can go to the location on the same day after consultation if the PT determines that doing so is in the patient's best interest. General supervision includes supervision delivered through telehealth, but telehealth does not erase the substantive supervision requirements.
Classification method
For a scenario, identify the worker first, then the task, then the required supervision. A licensed PTA with the required experience may qualify for general supervision; an aide does not. A student is not an assistive-personnel slot, but the student remains on-site supervised.
