Frequently Asked Questions

How many questions are on the West Virginia bail bond examination?

The professional and surety bail bond examination has 30 multiple-choice questions. Candidates have 90 minutes and must answer at least 80% correctly; the bail-bond result is not a scaled score.

What does the West Virginia bail bond examination cover?

The official outline lists six categories: Commissioner authority and terminology; licence requirements and qualifications; renewal; licensee responsibilities; collateral receipts; and cancellation, death, incompetence or disciplinary action. The outline gives question-count ranges rather than fixed percentages.

Is a pre-licensing course required?

The bail bond examination itself has no pre-licensing course requirement. Surety applicants also need limited-lines surety or property-and-casualty producer authority. The property-and-casualty route has separate education and examination requirements; professional bondsmen instead must provide approved collateral.

How much is the examination fee?

The September 2026 Pearson handbook lists an $84 reservation fee. State rule 114CSR103 also requires the testing service to collect a $25 examination fee for the Commissioner. Confirm with Pearson whether its listed charge includes that amount. License application and fingerprinting fees are separate.

How often must a West Virginia bail bondsman renew the licence?

Licences renew every two years by the last day of the bondsman’s birth month, under 114CSR103-4.1. Fingerprinting is required at initial application and each renewal.
