1Which process is illustrated by ağız → ağzı in standard Turkish?
A.Ünlü düşmesi
B.Ünlü türemesi
C.Ünsüz türemesi
D.Ünlü daralması
Explanation: The second-syllable vowel ı is lost when the vowel-initial suffix is attached: ağız becomes ağzı. This is vowel deletion, not the narrowing seen in a form such as başlıyor.
2Which pair correctly illustrates that final-consonant voicing before a vowel suffix is not universal in Turkish loanwords?
A.kitap → kitapı; hukuk → hukuğu
B.kitap → kitabı; hukuk → hukuku
C.kitap → kitabı; hukuk → hukuğu
D.kitap → kitabi; hukuk → huküku
Explanation: TDK gives kitap → kitabı but lists hukuk among loanwords that retain their final consonant. A useful rule must account for lexical exceptions rather than predict voicing in every word.
3In evlerimizden, what grammatical function does -imiz express?
A.Plural number of the noun
B.Ablative case
C.First-person plural possession
D.Second-person singular possession
Explanation: The form segments as ev-ler-imiz-den: house, plural, our, from. The possessive suffix -imiz identifies the possessor as first-person plural, while -ler marks the noun's plurality.
4Kutadgu Bilig by Yusuf Has Hacib belongs to which historical Turkic written-language context?
A.Modern Türkiye Turkish of the Republican period
B.Ottoman Turkish of the nineteenth century
C.Chagatai of the fifteenth century
D.Karakhanid Turkish
Explanation: Kutadgu Bilig is an eleventh-century work associated with Karakhanid Turkish. Its didactic and political-ethical content makes it important for both language history and literary study.
5An Old Anatolian Turkish transcription has geldüm, compared with modern geldim. Considering only the vowels e and ü in geldüm, which analysis is correct?
A.Both are front vowels, but the second is rounded after an unrounded vowel
B.The second vowel is back while the first is front
C.Both vowels are unrounded
D.The example demonstrates deletion of the root vowel
Explanation: E and ü are both front vowels, so the pair does not violate front-back harmony. The rounded ü after unrounded e instead illustrates a difference relevant to labial harmony; historical stages should not be judged by one undifferentiated 'vowel harmony' label.
6Which verb form completes Ben ve sen bu işi ... with standard person agreement?
A.bitireceğim
B.bitireceğiz
C.bitireceksin
D.bitireceksiniz
Explanation: A coordinated subject including the speaker takes first-person plural agreement in this construction. Ben ve sen therefore corresponds to biz and requires bitireceğiz.
7What is the conventional name for the artist who performs Karagöz shadow theatre?
A.Kavuklu
B.Pişekâr
C.Hayalî
D.Âşık
Explanation: The Karagöz performer is called hayalî and traditionally learns through an apprenticeship relationship. Kavuklu and Pişekâr are associated with ortaoyunu roles rather than this performer designation.
8An original practice description reads: 'Şiir, yiğidin savaş karşısındaki korkusuzluğunu ve mücadele gücünü över.' Which folk-poetry thematic term best fits?
A.Ağıt
B.Taşlama
C.Güzelleme
D.Koçaklama
Explanation: Koçaklama conventionally emphasizes bravery, martial spirit and heroic action. The question identifies a thematic classification, not a claim that every poem in it has one invariant formal structure.
9Which rhyme pattern is conventionally associated with a basic four-line mani?
A.aaxa
B.abab
C.abba
D.abca
Explanation: A basic mani is conventionally described with aaxa rhyme, where the third line is independent. Folk performance includes variants, so the description concerns the basic form rather than every example.
10Which distinction is most useful when discussing verse-like and prose passages in Dede Korkut manuscripts?
A.A manuscript page's prose layout proves the work has no poetic passages
B.Page layout and the narrative's verse-prose organization are different kinds of evidence
C.Every passage must follow the same modern stanza pattern
D.The work consists solely of modern free-verse poems
Explanation: Dede Korkut is conventionally discussed as a mixed verse-prose narrative tradition. Manuscript layout need not mark poetic passages as modern printed stanzas, and scholarship examines their rhythm and form rather than inferring genre from layout alone.
