1A projectile is launched from ground level over flat terrain with an initial speed of 40 m/s at an angle of 30° above the horizontal. Assuming negligible air resistance and taking g = 10 m/s², what is the maximum vertical height reached by the projectile?
A.20 m
B.40 m
C.80 m
D.10 m
Explanation: The initial vertical velocity component is v0y = v0 * sin(30°) = 40 m/s * 0.5 = 20 m/s. At peak height, vertical velocity is zero, so H = v0y² / (2g) = (20)² / (2 * 10) = 400 / 20 = 20 m.
2An electric vehicle starts from rest and accelerates uniformly along a straight track at 3.0 m/s² for 6.0 seconds. It then travels at the acquired constant velocity for another 10.0 seconds. What is the total distance covered by the vehicle during these 16.0 seconds?
A.234 m
B.180 m
C.288 m
D.108 m
Explanation: During acceleration, distance covered is d1 = 0.5 * a * t1² = 0.5 * 3.0 * (6.0)² = 54 m, and final speed is v = a * t1 = 3.0 * 6.0 = 18 m/s. During the constant speed phase, d2 = v * t2 = 18 * 10.0 = 180 m. Total distance is d1 + d2 = 54 + 180 = 234 m.
3A 5.0 kg crate is already sliding along a horizontal floor with kinetic friction coefficient 0.20. A 25 N horizontal force pulls in the direction of motion. With g = 10 m/s², what is its acceleration?
A.3.0 m/s²
B.5.0 m/s²
C.2.0 m/s²
D.4.0 m/s²
Explanation: The normal force is Fn = m * g = 5.0 kg * 10 m/s² = 50 N. The kinetic friction force is fk = μk * Fn = 0.20 * 50 N = 10 N. The net force is Fnet = Fpull - fk = 25 N - 10 N = 15 N. By Newton's second law, a = Fnet / m = 15 N / 5.0 kg = 3.0 m/s².
4Two blocks of masses m1 = 3.0 kg and m2 = 2.0 kg are connected by a light, inextensible cord passing over a frictionless, massless pulley. Taking g = 10 m/s², what is the magnitude of the linear acceleration of the blocks?
A.2.0 m/s²
B.1.0 m/s²
C.4.0 m/s²
D.5.0 m/s²
Explanation: For an ideal Atwood machine, the acceleration is given by a = (m1 - m2)g / (m1 + m2). Substituting the given values: a = (3.0 - 2.0) * 10 / (3.0 + 2.0) = 10 / 5.0 = 2.0 m/s².
5A 2.0 kg block slides along a frictionless horizontal surface with an initial speed of 3.0 m/s. An external horizontal force acts on the block in the direction of motion, performing 16.0 J of work. What is the final speed of the block?
A.5.0 m/s
B.4.0 m/s
C.7.0 m/s
D.6.2 m/s
Explanation: Initial kinetic energy is KEi = 0.5 * m * vi² = 0.5 * 2.0 kg * (3.0 m/s)² = 9.0 J. According to the work-energy theorem, KEf = KEi + W = 9.0 J + 16.0 J = 25.0 J. Solving for final speed: 0.5 * 2.0 * vf² = 25.0 => vf = sqrt(25.0) = 5.0 m/s.
6A horizontal spring with spring constant k = 500 N/m is compressed by 0.20 m from its equilibrium position. A 0.80 kg puck resting against the compressed spring on a frictionless surface is released from rest. What is the speed of the puck when it separates from the spring at the equilibrium point?
A.5.0 m/s
B.2.5 m/s
C.10.0 m/s
D.3.5 m/s
Explanation: The elastic potential energy stored in the spring is Ee = 0.5 * k * x² = 0.5 * 500 * (0.20)² = 250 * 0.04 = 10.0 J. By conservation of mechanical energy, this transfers completely into kinetic energy: 0.5 * m * v² = 10.0 J => 0.5 * 0.80 * v² = 10.0 => 0.40 * v² = 10.0 => v² = 25 => v = 5.0 m/s.
7A 1200 kg car traveling east at 20 m/s collides and locks bumpers with an 800 kg car that is stationary at an intersection. Assuming negligible external horizontal friction during the brief collision, what is the speed of the combined wreckage immediately after impact?
A.12 m/s
B.10 m/s
C.15 m/s
D.8 m/s
Explanation: Linear momentum is conserved: p_initial = m1 * v1 = 1200 kg * 20 m/s = 24,000 kg·m/s. The combined mass after the inelastic collision is m1 + m2 = 1200 + 800 = 2000 kg. The final velocity is vf = 24,000 / 2000 = 12 m/s.
8An automobile rounds a flat, unbanked horizontal curve of radius 80 m. The coefficient of static friction between the tires and the dry pavement is μs = 0.50. Taking g = 10 m/s², what is the maximum speed the automobile can round the curve without skidding?
A.20 m/s
B.14 m/s
C.25 m/s
D.40 m/s
Explanation: The centripetal force is supplied by static friction: fs_max = μs * m * g = m * v² / r. Solving for maximum speed: v_max = sqrt(μs * g * r) = sqrt(0.50 * 10 * 80) = sqrt(400) = 20 m/s.
9A uniform horizontal beam of length 4.0 m and mass 30 kg is supported by two vertical pillars: Pillar A is located at the left end (x = 0 m), and Pillar B is located at x = 3.0 m. Taking g = 10 m/s², what vertical upward force does Pillar B exert on the beam?
A.200 N
B.100 N
C.150 N
D.300 N
Explanation: The beam's total weight is W = m * g = 30 kg * 10 m/s² = 300 N, acting downward at its center of gravity (x = 2.0 m). Choosing Pillar A as the pivot point for rotational equilibrium: Στ = 0 => (300 N * 2.0 m) - (FB * 3.0 m) = 0 => 600 N·m = FB * 3.0 m => FB = 200 N.
10A solid uniform cylinder (moment of inertia I = 0.5 M R²) with mass M = 4.0 kg and radius R = 0.10 m is mounted on a frictionless axle. A constant net torque of 1.2 N·m is applied to the cylinder. What is the resulting angular acceleration?
A.60 rad/s²
B.30 rad/s²
C.120 rad/s²
D.12 rad/s²
Explanation: First, calculate the moment of inertia: I = 0.5 * M * R² = 0.5 * 4.0 kg * (0.10 m)² = 0.020 kg·m². Then apply Newton's second law for rotation: α = τ / I = 1.2 N·m / 0.020 kg·m² = 60 rad/s².

Frequently Asked Questions

What are the eligibility and other assessment requirements?

The 2026 guide requires the statutory Academy-entry conditions. Graduation from a MEB-approved higher-education program for the intended field is required by the Academy application date. Check the applicable MEB recruitment notice for accepted programs and other conditions; test participation does not confer an appointment right. All candidates must take the morning AGS session; subsequent Academy training is separate.

How is the real examination scored?

Raw score is correct answers minus one-quarter of wrong answers. Scores are standardized and combined under the guide’s field-specific rules; there is no universal pass mark or automatic appointment.
