Sample ÖABT Rehberlik Practice Questions

Try these sample questions to review concepts for the ÖABT Rehberlik exam. Each question includes a detailed explanation. Start the interactive quiz above for the full 25+ question experience with AI tutoring.

1A pupil begins submitting homework more often after doing so reliably removes an unpleasant reminder. If submission increases because the reminder is removed, which operant process is illustrated?
A.Negative reinforcement
B.Positive punishment
C.Negative punishment
D.Extinction
Explanation: Reinforcement increases behavior, and negative refers to removal of a stimulus. Removing the aversive reminder contingently strengthens submission; negative reinforcement is not synonymous with punishment.
2A tone is first conditioned by pairing it with food. A light is then paired with that conditioned tone, without food, and later elicits the response. What is this sequence?
A.Sensory preconditioning
B.Higher-order conditioning
C.Spontaneous recovery
D.Stimulus discrimination
Explanation: A previously conditioned stimulus supports conditioning to a new stimulus, making this higher-order conditioning. In sensory preconditioning, the two initially neutral stimuli are paired before either acquires its food association.
3Grouping a long string of digits into meaningful units principally illustrates which memory strategy?
A.Retroactive interference
B.Response cost
C.Chunking
D.Stimulus satiation
Explanation: Chunking organizes separate elements into meaningful units that can be handled together. Its usefulness depends on knowledge and task demands; it does not establish a fixed universal working-memory capacity.
4Within Marcia's identity-status model, a student actively explores career alternatives but has not made a commitment. Which status fits?
A.Foreclosure
B.Achievement
C.Diffusion
D.Moratorium
Explanation: Moratorium combines active exploration with an absence of settled commitment. These are theoretical statuses, not permanent clinical diagnoses or labels fixed solely by age.
5How should Rogers' congruence, unconditional positive regard and empathic understanding be described in relation to his 1957 formulation?
A.Three therapist attitudes within a larger six-condition relational formulation
B.The entire six-condition formulation with no additional conditions
C.Three techniques for disputing irrational beliefs
D.Three stages that every client completes in a fixed order
Explanation: The three attitudes are central therapist conditions, but Rogers' formulation contains six conditions in total. It also concerns psychological contact, client incongruence and the client's perception of the therapist's regard and empathy.
6In Rogers' account, which discrepancy is central to psychological incongruence?
A.Real self versus ideal self as the complete definition
B.Self-concept versus organismic experience
C.The counselor's personal values versus the client's values
D.Conscious wishes versus an invariant psychosexual stage
Explanation: Incongruence concerns a mismatch between the self-concept and experienced organismic processes. A real-self versus ideal-self discrepancy can be relevant, but does not fully replace this theoretical formulation.
7In Gestalt terminology, accepting others' rules uncritically without examining or assimilating them is most closely called what?
A.Projection
B.Retroflection
C.Introjection
D.Confluence
Explanation: Introjection describes taking in external beliefs or expectations without critical assimilation. The question uses Gestalt terminology specifically, rather than assuming identical meanings across every psychological theory.
8A student says, 'If I fail this examination, it will be unbearable and I will be worthless as a person.' Which REBT distinction is most directly relevant?
A.A flexible preference versus an unconditional demand, with no global self-rating present
B.A factual prediction of failure versus an objective measure of personal worth
C.Unconditional self-acceptance versus accepting the consequences of a specific action
D.Awfulizing and global self-rating versus evaluating a specific disappointing outcome
Explanation: The statement treats failure as unbearable and extends one outcome to the worth of the whole person. REBT distinguishes such beliefs from acknowledging disappointment while avoiding a global judgment of human worth.
9A counselor and client jointly specify a prediction, examine evidence for it and plan a suitable behavioral test. Which CBT principle best describes their working relationship?
A.Collaborative empiricism
B.Unquestioned therapist authority
C.Interpretation solely through dream symbolism
D.Assessment without client participation
Explanation: Collaborative empiricism treats beliefs as propositions to examine together using relevant evidence and experience. It differs from imposing the counselor's conclusion or conducting assessment without the client's involvement.
10Why is a report of inattention during only one unusually stressful lesson insufficient to establish ADHD?
A.Symptoms must occur at identical intensity in every school subject
B.Assessment must consider persistence, impairment, multiple settings and alternative explanations
C.A teacher's report of one difficult lesson replaces the duration criterion
D.Academic grades alone determine whether impairment exists
Explanation: ADHD evaluation considers persistent developmentally inappropriate symptoms, impairment and occurrence across settings, with other explanations examined. The standard symptom-duration criterion is at least six months; one episode does not establish it.

What are the eligibility and other assessment requirements?

The 2026 guide requires the statutory Academy-entry conditions. Graduation from a MEB-approved higher-education program for the intended field is required by the Academy application date. Check the applicable MEB recruitment notice for accepted programs and other conditions; test participation does not confer an appointment right. All candidates must take the morning AGS session; subsequent Academy training is separate.

How is the real examination scored?

Raw score is correct answers minus one-quarter of wrong answers. Scores are standardized and combined under the guide’s field-specific rules; there is no universal pass mark or automatic appointment.
