A.Gravity filtration
B.Liquid-liquid extraction
C.Fractional distillation
D.Paper chromatography
Explanation: Fractional distillation separates miscible liquids with different boiling points (ethanol boils at 78.3 °C and water at 100.0 °C) through repeated vaporization and condensation cycles along a fractionating column.
2Which of the following systems represents a heterogeneous mixture classified as an emulsion?
A.Aqueous solution of sucrose completely dissolved in water
B.Clean, filtered atmospheric air free of suspended dust
C.Solid brass alloy composed of copper and zinc
D.Milk (liquid butterfat droplets dispersed in an aqueous phase)
Explanation: An emulsion is a heterogeneous colloidal dispersion consisting of liquid microscopic droplets dispersed throughout an immiscible liquid medium, such as fat globules stabilized in water in milk.
3A solution is prepared by dissolving 25.0 g of sodium chloride (NaCl) in 225.0 g of distilled water. What is the mass fraction (w) and mass percentage of sodium chloride in this solution?
A.w = 0.090 (9.0%)
B.w = 0.100 (10.0%)
C.w = 0.111 (11.1%)
D.w = 0.125 (12.5%)
Explanation: The mass fraction w equals the mass of solute divided by the total mass of the solution: w = 25.0 g / (25.0 g + 225.0 g) = 25.0 g / 250.0 g = 0.100, which corresponds to 10.0% by mass.
4A reagent bottle carries the GHS corrosion pictogram (GHS05), depicting liquids spilling from two test tubes onto a metal plate and a human hand. What primary hazards does this symbol convey?
A.Causes severe skin burns, serious permanent eye damage, and is corrosive to metals
B.Causes acute fatal toxicity upon immediate inhalation, ingestion, or skin contact
C.Designates a flammable substance capable of self-ignition in contact with air
D.Identifies an oxidizing agent that can intensify the combustion of flammable substances
Explanation: The GHS corrosion pictogram (GHS05) indicates substances that destroy dermal tissue causing severe chemical burns, cause irreversible eye damage, and chemically corrode metallic containers.
5Which of the following processes represents a chemical change rather than a purely physical change?
A.Rusting of an iron nail exposed to atmospheric oxygen and moisture
B.Sublimation of solid iodine crystals into purple vapor upon gentle heating
C.Dissolution of solid table salt (NaCl) in distilled water at room temperature
D.Condensation of water vapor into liquid droplets on the cold exterior of a beaker
Explanation: Rusting of iron is a chemical change involving a redox reaction between iron metal, oxygen, and water to produce new chemical substances (hydrated iron(III) oxides) with different bonding.
6What volume of a 2.00 mol·dm⁻³ stock solution of hydrochloric acid (HCl) must be measured to prepare 500 cm³ of a 0.200 mol·dm⁻³ HCl solution by dilution with distilled water?
A.25.0 cm³
B.50.0 cm³
C.100.0 cm³
D.200.0 cm³
Explanation: Applying the dilution formula c₁V₁ = c₂V₂ gives V₁ = (c₂ × V₂) / c₁ = (0.200 mol·dm⁻³ × 500 cm³) / 2.00 mol·dm⁻³ = 50.0 cm³ of concentrated stock solution.
7In an acid-base volumetric titration of hydrochloric acid (HCl) using standardized sodium hydroxide (NaOH) titrant and phenolphthalein indicator, which laboratory glassware pair and color transition at the endpoint are correct?
A.Titrant in a volumetric flask, analyte in a graduated cylinder; dark red to completely colorless
B.Titrant in an Erlenmeyer flask, analyte in a buret; deep yellow to dark royal blue
C.Titrant in a separatory funnel, analyte in a beaker; intense emerald green to bright orange
D.Titrant in a buret, analyte measured with a volumetric pipet; colorless to faint persistent pink
Explanation: In volumetric titrations, standardized titrant is dispensed from a calibrated buret while analyte volume is measured precisely with a volumetric pipet. Phenolphthalein remains colorless in acidic solution and turns faint pink at the equivalence endpoint (pH 8.2–10).
8The solubility of potassium nitrate (KNO₃) is 110.0 g per 100.0 g of water at 60.0 °C and 32.0 g per 100.0 g of water at 20.0 °C. If 210.0 g of a saturated KNO₃ solution at 60.0 °C is cooled to 20.0 °C, what mass of crystalline KNO₃ precipitates?
A.32.0 g
B.55.0 g
C.78.0 g
D.110.0 g
Explanation: At 60.0 °C, 100.0 g of water dissolves 110.0 g of KNO₃, giving 210.0 g of saturated solution containing exactly 110.0 g of solute and 100.0 g of water. Upon cooling to 20.0 °C, the 100.0 g of water can hold only 32.0 g of solute. The mass that crystallizes out is 110.0 g - 32.0 g = 78.0 g.
9How many protons, neutrons, and electrons are present in a neutral atom of chlorine-35 represented by the nuclide symbol ³⁵₁₇Cl?
A.17 protons, 18 neutrons, and 17 electrons
B.17 protons, 35 neutrons, and 17 electrons
C.18 protons, 17 neutrons, and 18 electrons
D.35 protons, 17 neutrons, and 17 electrons
Explanation: In ³⁵₁₇Cl, the atomic number Z = 17 defines the number of protons and, in a neutral atom, electrons. The neutron number N equals the mass number minus atomic number: A - Z = 35 - 17 = 18 neutrons.
10Naturally occurring chlorine consists of two stable isotopes: ³⁵Cl with an isotopic mass of 34.97 u (75.77% relative abundance) and ³⁷Cl with an isotopic mass of 36.97 u (24.23% relative abundance). What is the standard relative atomic mass of chlorine?
A.34.97
B.35.45
C.35.97
D.36.00
Explanation: The relative atomic mass is the abundance-weighted average: A_r = (34.97 × 0.7577) + (36.97 × 0.2423) = 26.50 + 8.96 = 35.45.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the format of the Slovak maturita in chemistry?

Chemistry is taken only as an oral internal examination (ÚFIČ MS). The student draws one of at least 30 maturitné zadania prepared by the school from the national target requirements, prepares for 20 minutes and answers for 20 minutes before a subject commission made up of a chair and two examiners.

How is the chemistry maturita graded?

Each of the three tasks is graded 1 (výborný) to 5 (nedostatočný). The final grade is the weighted average z = (z1 + 2·z2 + 2·z3) / 5, rounded under Decree No. 224/2022 Z. z. A final grade of 1–4 passes; a student who fails can take a retake (opravná skúška) in a later examination period, usually September or February.

What is the laboratory task and which aids may be used?

Under the 2019 target requirements, task 3 focuses on the student's laboratory experience without a lab report (for example describing a procedure, a calculation linked to an experiment, or discussing results) or on working with a specialist text. The catalogue lists mathematical, physical and chemical tables, a simple calculator with exponential and logarithmic functions, a molecular model kit, and models of crystal lattices and orbitals as aids.

Is this practice bank an official maturita assignment set?

No. This is independent practice by OpenExamPrep: an English-language, four-option multiple-choice study adaptation of the eight areas in the chemistry target requirements. It is not an official assignment set or translation and does not simulate the oral examination.
