About the O-Level E-Maths Exam
The GCE Ordinary Level Mathematics examination (Syllabus 4052), often called E-Maths, is the elementary mathematics qualification sat by Singapore students at the end of Secondary 4. It is jointly set and conducted by the Singapore Examinations and Assessment Board (SEAB) and Cambridge. The exam comprises two written papers of 2 hours 15 minutes each, worth 90 marks apiece for a combined 180 marks; Paper 1 is about 26 short-answer questions and Paper 2 has 9-10 longer questions ending in a real-world application task. A scientific calculator and a formula sheet are provided for both papers. The syllabus spans three strands - Number and Algebra, Geometry and Measurement, and Statistics and Probability - and results are reported on the standards-referenced A1 to F9 scale, with C6 or better counting as a pass.
