Oklahoma notaries serve a 4-year term and, for applications filed on or after January 1, 2026, must file a $10,000 surety bond with the Secretary of State within 60 days of commissioning. The maximum fee is $5 per traditional notarial act and $25 per remote online act (no fee for absentee ballot affidavits). Oklahoma requires no written notary exam, but Senate Bill 1028 added a national criminal history background check for new and renewing applicants in 2026. Remote online notarization has been authorized since January 1, 2020 and requires separate registration with the Secretary of State.
