For 2026, a New Mexico notary commission runs 4 years and requires applicants to be 18+, be a New Mexico resident or work in New Mexico, complete the state notary course, and pass its exam at 80%. Applicants file a $30 application with the Secretary of State, post a $10,000 surety bond, and register an official stamp within 45 days. Maximum fees are $5 per acknowledgment, jurat, or oath/affirmation, $0.50 per page for copy certifications (with a $5 minimum), and up to a $25 technology fee for electronic acts. A journal is mandatory for all paper and electronic acts and must be kept 10 years.
