1In the Portuguese sentence 'As crianças brincavam no pátio da escola', what is the word class (classe de palavras) of 'brincavam'?
A.Nome (noun)
B.Adjectivo (adjective)
C.Verbo (verb)
D.Advérbio (adverb)
Explanation: 'Brincavam' is a form of the verb 'brincar' (3rd person plural, pretérito imperfeito do indicativo). It names the action the children were doing, so it belongs to the class of verbs.
2In the phrase 'O sol brilhante iluminava a aldeia', which word is an adjective (adjectivo)?
A.Brilhante
B.Sol
C.Iluminava
D.Aldeia
Explanation: 'Brilhante' gives a quality to the noun 'sol' (what the sun is like), so it is an adjective. Adjectives agree with the noun they describe.
3Which words are adjectives in the sentence 'A menina alegre comprou uma saia azul'?
A.Menina e saia
B.Comprou e uma
C.A e uma
D.Alegre e azul
Explanation: 'Alegre' describes 'menina' and 'azul' describes 'saia'. Both give a quality or characteristic to a noun, so both are adjectives.
4Which form of the verb 'estudar' is in the conditional (modo condicional)?
A.Estudarei
B.Estudaria
C.Estudava
D.Estudei
Explanation: The conditional is formed with the infinitive plus the endings -ia, -ias, -ia, -íamos, -íeis, -iam. 'Estudaria' (eu estudaria) expresses an action that would happen if a condition were met.
5Complete the sentence with the verb in the conditional: 'Se eu tivesse dinheiro, ___ uma bicicleta nova.'
A.comprarei
B.compro
C.compraria
D.comprei
Explanation: After a condition with 'se' + imperfeito do conjuntivo ('se eu tivesse'), the main clause uses the conditional: 'compraria'. The action depends on a condition that is not real now.
6In the sentence 'Gostaria de falar com a senhora directora', what does the conditional form 'gostaria' express?
A.An action that was completed yesterday
B.A polite request (cortesia)
C.A firm order to the listener
D.An action that will certainly happen tomorrow
Explanation: The conditional is often used to make requests more polite. 'Gostaria de falar' is a courteous way of saying 'quero falar'.
7What is the correct conditional form of the verb 'ir' for 'nós'?
A.Iremos
B.Íamos
C.Fomos
D.Iríamos
Explanation: The conditional adds -íamos to the infinitive: ir + íamos = 'iríamos' (we would go). Example: 'Nós iríamos à praia se não chovesse.'
8Which of these words is stressed on the last syllable (palavra aguda or oxítona)?
A.Café
B.Mesa
C.Árvore
D.Música
Explanation: In 'café' the tonic (stressed) syllable is the last one, '-fé', so it is an aguda (oxítona) word.
9Which word is stressed on the third-to-last syllable (esdrúxula or proparoxítona) and therefore always carries a written accent?
A.Jardim
B.Lâmpada
C.Caderno
D.Animal
Explanation: 'Lâmpada' is stressed on 'lâm-', the third-to-last syllable. In Portuguese, all esdrúxulas (proparoxítonas) carry a written accent.
10The word 'janela' is divided ja-ne-la. How many of its syllables are átonas (unstressed)?
A.Two
B.One
C.Three
D.None
Explanation: The tonic syllable of 'janela' is 'ne'. The other two syllables, 'ja' and 'la', are pronounced with less force, so they are átonas.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does the INECE 6ª classe final exam cover?

It has four written papers — Língua Portuguesa, Matemática, Ciências Naturais and Ciências Sociais. Each year INECE publishes a matriz de objectivos e conteúdos listing the topics for each paper; this bank follows the 2026 matrices.

What is the format of the official exam?

The papers are written in Portuguese and answered on an answer sheet. In 2025 each paper had seven questions with marks shown for each one; Português and Matemática lasted 120 minutes and Ciências Sociais 90 minutes.

Is this an official translation of the exam?

No. This is an independent English-language multiple-choice study adaptation by OpenExamPrep. It is not an official INECE translation and does not reproduce the official open-question format, so also practise writing full answers in Portuguese.

How is the exam marked?

Marks use the 0–20 valores scale, where 10 is the positive threshold. Whether a pupil passes depends on the rules of the primary-school assessment regulation, which combine school marks with exam results.

When is the exam held?

It is held nationally near the end of the school year, usually in November, with a second sitting for pupils who missed the first for justified reasons. Check the dates announced by the Ministério da Educação e Cultura each year.
