Leaving Certificate Applied Technology is a vocational specialism in Ireland’s two-year LCA programme. The NCCA module descriptor develops practical and generic technology skills grounded in learners’ life experience: graphic communication, materials, measurement, design and manufacture, water systems and plumbing, electricity and basic electronics, with continuous emphasis on health, safety, environmental and consumer awareness. Students complete four modules — Introducing Technology first, then Design and Manufacture, Water Technology, and Electrical Understanding and Basic Electronics (in any order). Assessment awards credits for Key Assignments and attendance and includes a practical performance and written examination (12 credits) under the State Examinations Commission. LCA itself is awarded at Pass, Merit or Distinction based on total credits out of 200. This specialism is not the same as Established Leaving Certificate Technology.
