About the LCA Engineering Exam
LCA Engineering is an activity-based vocational specialism in Ireland's Leaving Certificate Applied programme. Students convert materials into artefacts using hand and machine tools while building knowledge of safety, materials, processes, measurement, design communication and selected engineering systems. The NCCA module descriptor requires four modules, with Engineering Core mandatory and three further modules drawn from General Engineering Processes, Motor Engineering, Decorative Metalwork and Engineering Systems. Assessment includes continuous key assignments and a final SEC practical-and-written examination worth 12 credits. It is a different programme pathway from Established Leaving Certificate Engineering.
