About the LCA Social Education Exam
Social Education is a core General Education course in Ireland's Leaving Certificate Applied. Its primary focus is personal and social development: self-awareness, interpersonal relationships, health care, and contemporary social, economic, political and cultural issues, plus preparation for the move from dependent to independent living. The classic course has six sequenced modules — Social and Health Education 1, My Community, Contemporary Issues 1, Social and Health Education 2, Contemporary Issues 2, and Taking Charge. For students who entered Year 1 in 2024/25 (sitting finals in June 2026), assessment includes Key Assignments, the Contemporary Issues Task and a final written examination incorporating audio (10 final-exam credits). For students entering Year 1 in 2025/26, Senior Cycle SPHE replaces Social Education modules 1 and 4 and the Social Education final examination is discontinued for that cohort, with credits redistributed to SPHE Key Assignments and an increased Contemporary Issues Task (14 credits), per the NCCA LCA Programme Statement (December 2024). LCA is distinct from the Established Leaving Certificate. This practice bank offers original multiple-choice concept questions in English on the course knowledge — it does not replace authentic Key Assignments, tasks or SEC papers.

LCA Social Education: Suggested Study Strategy
Frequently Asked Questions
How many modules are in classic LCA Social Education?
Six, in fixed sequence: Social and Health Education 1, My Community, Contemporary Issues 1, Social and Health Education 2, Contemporary Issues 2, and Taking Charge.
Do June 2026 LCA sitters still take a Social Education final exam?
Students who entered LCA Year 1 in 2024/25 still follow the classic six-module course with Key Assignments, the Contemporary Issues Task (10 credits) and a final Social Education written examination incorporating audio (10 credits), per the NCCA LCA Programme Statement credit table for that entry year. Students entering Year 1 in 2025/26 do not sit that final Social Education examination.
What changes for students entering LCA Year 1 in 2025/26?
Senior Cycle SPHE replaces Social Education modules 1 and 4. The Social Education final examination is discontinued for that cohort. SPHE is assessed through Key Assignments (4 credits over the programme). Remaining Social Education modules keep Key Assignments; the Contemporary Issues Task rises to 14 credits.
How does Social Education fit in the overall LCA award?
LCA is a single award of up to 200 credits from module completion, seven Student Tasks and final examinations (where applicable). Overall bands are Pass, Merit and Distinction. Social Education historically contributes module credits, the Contemporary Issues Task and, for earlier cohorts, 10 final-exam credits.
Is LCA Social Education the same as Established Leaving Certificate subjects?
No. LCA is a distinct two-year programme with modular credits and applied learning. Social Education is a General Education course within LCA, not an Established Leaving Certificate Higher/Ordinary subject paper.
Are these official State Examinations Commission questions?
No. These are original OpenExamPrep single-best-answer concept questions in English. They are a study adaptation and do not match the official written-with-audio format. Complete authentic Key Assignments and tasks, and practise official SEC materials where your cohort still sits the final exam.
