About the LCA Mathematical Applications Exam
LCA Mathematical Applications prepares Leaving Certificate Applied students to solve quantitative problems they meet in everyday life, leisure and work. The NCCA module descriptor (revised 2021) structures learning as four sequential modules — Planning, World Around Me, Life Skills and Work — all underpinned by Mathematical Concepts and Skills (number, measure, shape, linear relationships and statistics). Students keep a portfolio, complete Key Assignments using a mathematical case-study process, and sit a 2-hour SEC written examination (10 credits) after earning module credits for attendance and Key Assignments (4 credits). Contexts include budgeting and project costing, polls and voting charts, travel and recreation costs, personal finance, food and fitness maths, wages, job estimates and contracts. This course is distinct from Established Leaving Certificate Applied Mathematics (the mechanics-oriented subject) and from established LC Mathematics taken under the LCA addendum.
