1Complétez la phrase avec la forme correcte du verbe au présent de l'indicatif : « Mes parents et moi, nous ______ dans une jolie maison à Yaoundé. »
A.habitez
B.habitons
C.habitent
D.habite
Explanation: In French, the subject 'Mes parents et moi' represents the first-person plural ('nous' / 'we'). Regular -er verbs such as 'habiter' take the ending '-ons' with the pronoun 'nous', yielding 'nous habitons'.
2Choisissez la forme convenable du verbe 'finir' au présent de l'indicatif : « Les élèves sérieux ______ toujours leurs devoirs avant de jouer. »
A.finit
B.finissons
C.finissent
D.finissez
Explanation: The subject 'Les élèves sérieux' is third-person plural ('ils'). Second-group regular verbs ending in -ir (like 'finir') take the plural ending '-issent' in the third-person plural, giving 'ils finissent'.
3Quelle est la forme correcte du verbe irrégulier 'faire' au présent : « Vous ______ beaucoup d'efforts pour réussir votre examen de français. »
A.faites
B.faisez
C.faisons
D.font
Explanation: The verb 'faire' is an irregular third-group verb. Its second-person plural ('vous') present tense form is an irregular exception ending in '-tes': 'vous faites'.
4Complétez avec la forme correcte du verbe 'pouvoir' au présent : « Paul, est-ce que tu ______ porter ce sac de manioc ? »
A.peut
B.pouvons
C.pouvez
D.peux
Explanation: The irregular modal verb 'pouvoir' is conjugated with the second-person singular subject pronoun 'tu' as 'tu peux'.
5Complétez la phrase avec la conjugaison appropriée de 'prendre' : « Tous les matins, mes camarades et moi ______ le taxi de ville pour nous rendre à l'école. »
A.prend
B.prennent
C.prenons
D.prenez
Explanation: The compound subject 'mes camarades et moi' equals the first-person plural pronoun 'nous'. The verb 'prendre' drops the 'd' in the plural forms, resulting in 'nous prenons'.
6Choisissez la bonne forme au passé composé : « Hier soir, ma sœur et moi, nous ______ un délicieux plat de ndolé. »
A.avons préparé
B.sommes préparé
C.avons préparer
D.sommes préparés
Explanation: The verb 'préparer' is a transitive verb that forms its passé composé with the auxiliary 'avoir'. The past participle of regular -er verbs ends in -é ('préparé'), and with 'avoir' there is no subject agreement, giving 'nous avons préparé'.
7Complétez avec la forme correcte au passé composé : « La semaine dernière, Marie ______ à Douala pour assister au mariage de sa tante. »
A.a allé
B.est allée
C.est allé
D.a allée
Explanation: The verb 'aller' is a verb of movement that takes the auxiliary 'être' in the passé composé. When using 'être', the past participle agrees in gender and number with the subject 'Marie' (feminine singular), requiring the feminine agreement '-e': 'est allée'.
8Quelle est la forme appropriée au passé composé : « Mes frères aînés ______ pour Bafoussam très tôt ce matin. »
A.ont parti
B.sont parti
C.ont partis
D.sont partis
Explanation: The verb 'partir' is an intransitive verb of departure that takes 'être' in the passé composé. The past participle 'parti' must agree in gender and number with the masculine plural subject 'Mes frères aînés', adding an '-s' to form 'sont partis'.
9Complétez la phrase avec le verbe pronominal 'se réveiller' au passé composé : « Ce matin, nous ______ de bonne heure pour aller au champ. »
A.nous sommes réveillés
B.nous avons réveillé
C.sommes réveillés
D.nous sommes réveillé
Explanation: All pronominal (reflexive) verbs take 'être' as their auxiliary in the passé composé. The reflexive pronoun 'nous' must precede the auxiliary, and the past participle 'réveillé' agrees with the plural subject 'nous', yielding 'nous nous sommes réveillés'.
10Identifiez l'accord correct du participe passé dans cette phrase : « Les belles mangues que Paul a ______ au marché de Mokolo sont très sucrées. »
A.acheté
B.achetés
C.achetées
D.acheter
Explanation: In French, when a verb conjugated with 'avoir' is preceded by a direct object pronoun or relative pronoun ('que' referring back to 'Les belles mangues', which is feminine plural), the past participle must agree in gender and number with that preceding direct object. Therefore, 'achetées' (feminine plural) is required.

About the Cameroon GCE O-Level French Exam

The Cameroon General Certificate of Education (GCE) Ordinary Level French examination (Subject Code 0545) is a national examination administered annually by the Cameroon GCE Board in Buea. As a cornerstone of Cameroon's constitutional policy of official English-French bilingualism, French is one of the three compulsory Ordinary Level subjects, alongside English Language and Mathematics, for Anglophone secondary school candidates at Form 5. French 0545 is a two-paper subject: Paper 1 evaluates grammar, lexical knowledge, reading comprehension and translation mechanics through 50 compulsory multiple-choice questions (1 hour 30 minutes), and Paper 2 tests written expression, continuous composition and contextual translation (2 hours). Both papers were sat on Thursday 25 June 2026. The separate oral and practical component at Ordinary Level belongs to Special Bilingual Education French (0546), not to French 0545. The Board reported a 68.47% pass rate in French in the June 2026 session. Format note: this site's practice bank is 100 four-option multiple-choice questions covering the whole official syllabus. Paper 1 of the real examination is genuinely multiple choice (50 compulsory questions), so the format matches that paper, but the bank is a study aid only — it does not simulate the written theory/essay paper(s) or any practical examination, and its length does not describe the official exam.

French 0545 is a two-paper subject. Is French compulsory for all candidates taking the Cameroon GCE Ordinary Level?

Yes. Under the educational regulations of the Cameroon Ministry of Secondary Education (MINESEC) and the CGCEB, French is a compulsory subject for all regular secondary school candidates presenting for the GCE Ordinary Level certificate in order to promote national bilingualism.

How are past participle agreements tested in French Paper 1?

The examination regularly tests two main rules: (1) verbs conjugated with 'être' (movement verbs and pronominal verbs) agree in gender and number with the grammatical subject; and (2) verbs conjugated with 'avoir' agree in gender and number with a preceding direct object (COD) such as 'les photos que j'ai prises' or 'je les ai vus'.

What are common 'faux amis' (false friends) that Anglophone candidates should watch out for?

Common false cognates in GCE French include: 'actuellement' (which means 'currently/at present', not 'actually'), 'assister à' (which means 'to attend', not 'to assist/help'), 'attendre' (which means 'to wait for', not 'to attend'), 'blesser' (which means 'to injure/wound', not 'to bless'), and 'librairie' (which means 'bookshop', whereas library is 'bibliothèque').
